Subaru announces new concept models and one of them is geared towards automotive racing. The STI E-RA Concept electric car is capable of reaching over 1000 horsepower, surpassing the Tesla Model S Plaid

Subaru is one of the traditional automakers that are in their infancy in the electric car market, and now, during the Tokyo Auto Salon, the automaker unveiled its new concept models. Two cars were presented during the event, the main one being an electric car aimed at the automotive racing market that promises to offer competitive performance, reaching more than 1000 horsepower.

The new STI E-RA Concept is Subaru's track car of the future. Using its four Yamaha motors, one at each wheel, the electric racing car can generate up to 1.073 horsepower. The model also features extensive downforce along with all-wheel drive, which is linked to a “unique” torque vectoring system, which maximizes grip and stability.

The expectation for Subaru's new electric car is that it performs in automotive racing very competitively compared to its competitors.

The automaker estimates that, with its horsepower and torque, the model can perform a lap around the Nürburgring track in 6 minutes and 40 seconds, which should be faster than the 7 minutes and 35 seconds of the Tesla Model S Plaid, however a little slower than Volkswagen's ID.R, which clocks in at 6 minutes and 5 seconds.

One of the points that draw a lot of attention in the company's new electric car aimed at automotive racing is its battery, which is very small, with a capacity of 60 kWh. However, the manufacturer claims that this will not be an impasse and that the model will do well on the tracks.

Testing of the vehicle, which delivers more than 1000 horsepower, is expected to begin later this year. During its presentation at the Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru also presented its new electric crossover concept, the Solterra STI Concept.

The company didn't go into details about the new electric car, but the vehicle shows some changes from the previously presented version, coming with a skirt and roof spoiler and some other performance-oriented modifications.

About a company

Established in 1953, Subaru was one of the first companies in Japan's automobile industry. Despite being a “small” company in the sector, when compared to other competitors, the automaker has proven to be a highly profitable company for several years.

Subaru began mass production of 4WD models in the 70s. At that time, these vehicles were mostly intended for heavy-duty work, sometimes involving more difficult terrain. Using this system in passenger cars, in addition to being a revolutionary idea, took advantage of this technology to unite the excellence of driving comfort with a more effective level of traction and performance.
