Russian Youtube channel, staffed by engineers, tries to convert a diesel engine into a gasoline engine

Engineers from a channel Youtube Russians called Garage 54 are hard at work trying to convert a diesel engine into a gasoline engine. The results of the experiment showed some surprising results, highlights the website Motor1.

What was changed in the conversion?

Gasoline and diesel engines have internal combustion operation in common, however, if you fill it with the wrong fuel, it can cause terrible damage to the engine.

This shows the size of the challenge for the Russian channel when trying to convert. The challenge was to use a Toyota 2CT turbodiesel engine, taken from a van, to try to make it run on gasoline.

The team of engineers started by completely disassembling the engine, cleaning the parts and measuring the compliance of the airlock. combustion. The compression ratio of engines Diesel engines have to be bigger than gasoline engines. High compression ratio using gasoline can cause an explosion inside the engine.

Knowing the risk of causing permanent damage to the diesel engine, the team greatly reduced the engine's compression ratio. Modifications were also made to fit the spark plugs present in gasoline engines.

After all the work was done, the team of engineers reassembled the engine to start the tests and studies of the project. Incredibly, the engine started right away, running relatively well. The problem that was found was the low revs, however, the project is seen as a huge success.

It is not possible to imagine at the moment a great use of this project in the real world. The reason is that governments around the world are seeking to reduce the use of combustion engines. The expectation for the next 20 years is that there will be a huge reduction in the manufacture of diesel engines. combustion.
