The current ranking is led by models from Apple, but it also includes the Galaxy S23 Ultra from Samsung, which holds the fifth position. The prices were consulted in April 2025.
Below, discover the five phones with the best front cameras according to DXOMARK’s analysis.
iPhone 16 Pro Max — 151 Points
The iPhone 16 Pro Max tops the ranking with 151 points. Its front camera features 12 megapixels (MP), an f/1.9 aperture, and advanced features. Among them are the fifth-generation Smart HDR, the retina flash, and the portrait mode with focus and depth control.
The device is also equipped with Face ID technology, which uses the front camera for facial recognition.
For videos, the highlight is the TrueDepth camera, which records in 4K at 24 frames per second (fps), slow-motion in 1080p at 120 fps, and features cinematic stabilization in various resolutions, such as 4K, 1080p, and 720p.
On some websites, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is available starting at R$ 8,899.
iPhone 15 Pro Max — 149 Points
With 149 points, the iPhone 15 Pro Max ranks second. Launched in September 2023, it has similar characteristics to its successor. It also features a 12 MP lens, f/1.9 aperture, autofocus, retina flash, and Smart HDR 5.
The main difference between the two devices lies in the video capabilities. While it records in 4K at 24 fps, the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not support Dolby Vision mode at that resolution. Even so, it records in HDR Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 fps, and includes automatic and cinematic image stabilization.
The device can be found online starting at R$ 9,659.
iPhone 14 Pro Max — 145 Points
The iPhone 14 Pro Max occupies the third position, with 145 points. Launched in September 2022, the device remains relevant thanks to its 12 MP front camera with an f/1.9 aperture. It also includes autofocus, retina flash, and various photographic styles.
One distinguishing feature is the Smart HDR 4, which, although from an earlier generation, still offers good performance. The portrait mode features improved background blur, but uses older technology.
For recordings, the model offers videos in 4K at 24 fps, slow-motion in 1080p at 120 fps, and time-lapse with stabilization. It was launched with iOS 16 but is guaranteed to update to iOS 18.4, available since April 2025.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is available at some online stores starting at R$ 7,099.
iPhone 14 Plus — 144 Points
With 144 points, the iPhone 14 Plus ranks fourth. Also launched in September 2022, the device shares several specifications with the 14 Pro Max. It features a 12 MP sensor, f/1.9 aperture, autofocus, retina flash, and Smart HDR 4.
The portrait mode with focus and depth control is one of its highlights, although the model lacks the more advanced bokeh effect, which creates a more natural background blur. For videos, the device records in 4K Dolby Vision at 24 fps, Cinema mode in 4K HDR at 30 fps, and slow-motion in 1080p at 120 fps.
On the other hand, there is no support for the ProRes format, found in Pro models, which offers higher image quality and editing flexibility. The iPhone 14 Plus is also confirmed to update to iOS 18.4.
The iPhone 14 Plus costs starting from R$ 4,299 online.
Galaxy S23 Ultra — 141 Points
Closing the top 5, the Galaxy S23 Ultra scores 141 points. The Samsung device was launched in February 2023 and is the only non-Apple device on the list. It features a 12 MP front camera with autofocus, as well as an f/2.2 aperture.
Due to its smaller aperture compared to Apple models, the light intake is reduced, which may affect performance in low-light conditions. Nonetheless, the front sensor stands out for its good color reproduction and noise reduction in photos and videos.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra also records videos in up to 4K at 60 fps. It comes with Android 13 but is confirmed to support up to Android 17, expected in 2026. Among its highlights is the 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, as well as the main rear camera with 200 MP.
The processor is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with speeds of up to 3.2 GHz, offering high performance for gaming, photos, and videos. The model can be found for prices starting at R$ 4,399.
DXOMARK’s assessment shows that Apple continues to dominate the market for quality selfies. Four of the top five positions in the ranking are from the brand, featuring models that remain relevant even years after their release.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the only representative from Samsung in the top 5, demonstrating that there is still room for competition in the premium segment.
