It seems like a utopia. A solar electric car that recharges your batteries for free while parked. And it will finally become reality this year.

Aptera already has its long-awaited and desired solar electric car ready, which will begin series production this same year and which will gradually give important steps in its industrialization process, but also in its international marketing.

We are talking about a tremendously exotic vehicle that, in addition to its design, has opened its reserves from $ 26.500 (practically the price of a Toyota Prius or Camry in the United States) and promises to reach a range of up to 1.600 kilometers and recharge up to 64 kilometers per day with solar energy, while parked.

The Aptera is capable of recharging its batteries while parked, gaining up to 64 kilometers of free range per day in favorable conditions.

Free energy, recharging parked in the sun

We said that the Aptera is an exotic car, which somehow becomes a greater challenge for its industrialization. The Aptera has a waterdrop-shaped monocoque body and an axle design, with the suspensions and its three wheels separated from the body, which are key to making this bi-plaza compact, light, but above all aerodynamic, to maximize its autonomy to numbers impossible for any other electric car, while maintaining batteries of reasonable capacity, size and mass.

Aptera has already shipped its first complete, production body to its headquarters in Carlsbad, California. And it is working on the suspension geometry production process, with the aim of starting series production at the end of 2024.

We insist that the process was not simple. We talk about the design of a vehicle with a revolutionary conception, the capture of investment to take it forward and survive until the process that precedes its manufacturing and, of course, its industrialization. We expected Aptera to launch its solar electric car in 2022 and, finally, its series production will begin, if it meets the set deadlines, this year 2024.

From $26.500, up to 1.600 km of range

  • Aptera started reservations with a deposit of 100 dollars. And it did so with a Launch Edition that for $33.200 promises a range of 644 kilometers and that will have solar panels on the roof, dashboard, hood and rear window, to achieve its maximum solar recharge, which under favorable conditions it could reach 64 kilometers per day.
  • There will be a version with just 322 kilometers of autonomy and fewer solar panels, as well as front-wheel drive, which part of the 26.500 dollars.
  • If we configure it with all the extras available, with all the solar panels and 100 kWh batteries, we would have the version with 1.609 kilometers of autonomy and all-wheel drive, available for $48.300.

The Aptera bases its efficiency precisely on its lightweight construction and aerodynamics, which allows maximize your autonomy and also that each kWh of solar recharge can be used to the fullest. Our skepticism regarding the possibility of a car being able to recharge itself when parked in the sun, and obtaining reasonable results, resided in the low capacity of a solar panel to produce energy and, mainly, in the limitations of the surface area that the floor plan of a car offers to be able to install higher power photovoltaic generators.

Aptera's solar electric car will finally arrive this year

Aptera announces to its investors that it has already closed more than 46.000 reservations and that it could be able to sell 10.000 units in 2025 and reach a potential market of 600.000 units per year. Although the start of its production will be destined for the United States, Aptera proposed an international projection of the product which, after the far from simple process of adaptation and approval, could make it reach other markets such as Europe.

These days it announced its expansion to the United Arab Emirates, a market for which it created a special edition limited to 53 units. To access it, Aptera invited investors who, by investing in their capital with at least 27.000 dollars, will be able to secure the right to purchase one of them.
