Did you know that the Hyundai HB20, despite being one of the most popular compact hatchbacks in Brazil, has generated several complaints from its owners? Loss of power, increased fuel consumption and multimedia center failures are some of the most common problems reported. Find out all the details about these defects and find out if this model is worth investing in.

The Hyundai HB20 arrived on the Brazilian market in 2012, quickly winning over consumers with its attractive design and a good range of equipment. Manufactured in Piracicaba (SP), the model became one of Hyundai's main products in Brazil.

However, not everything is rosy for owners of this compact hatchback.. Reports of loss of power, increased fuel consumption and failures in the multimedia center have generated frustration among owners.

Problems with direct injection:

The 1.0 turboflex engine, introduced in the 2019 restyling, has been the target of criticism. Reports on the Reclame Aqui website point to problems with the direct injection system, such as loss of power and increased fuel consumption.

On the Reclame Aqui website, owner Maria, from Sรฃo Paulo, says that her HB20 TGDI 2022/2023 had problems in December 2023, and again in April 2024, requiring mechanical assistance repeatedly.

Maria says that โ€œthe injection light came on on the dashboard and the car lost speed, no longer developing as expectedโ€. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, where it spent 15 days undergoing repairs. In April 2024, the problem reappeared, and Maria again needed a tow truck to take the car to the workshop.

This is just one of dozens of similar complaints. In an interview with the Autoesporte website, mechanic Paulo Vianna explains that direct injection sprays fuel directly into the cylinder, which requires specialized maintenance and care when filling with quality fuel.

According to him, reported problems may be caused by adulterated fuel or chronic model defects. In this sense, Paulo Vianna adds that direct injection offers more precise control of fuel input, allowing greater power and torque, but also requires greater care and maintenance.

Multimedia center failures

Another frequent problem is the multimedia center. Some owners report that the equipment freezes or does not connect to their cell phones. Also to Reclame Aqui, Rayanne, from Brasรญlia, complained that her multimedia center had not connected to the Bluelink system since purchasing the car. After several solution attempts, the problem was resolved by the dealership.

Just like the injection problem, this is also another with dozens of similar cases in Reclame Aqui. According to Paulo Vianna, the malfunction of the multimedia center of some Hyundai HB20 units may be due to faults in the equipment's software.

Most of the time, defects are corrected with a system update carried out at the dealership itself.. Vianna highlights that, although this problem can be annoying, it generally does not interfere with driving the car.

In reply to Hyundai stated that the reported cases are punctual and covered by the 5-year warranty. The company guarantees that it treats all complaints seriously and is committed to maintaining high quality standards in customer service. In a statement, the manufacturer highlighted that its after-sales department is always available to resolve any problems faced by customers.

But, calm down! The strengths of HB20:

But, calm down, anyone who might think that the HB20 has no qualities is mistaken. Hyundai's compact hatch also has several strengths that make it an attractive choice. Among the positive highlights, we can mention:

  • modern design: Since its introduction, the HB20 has stood out for its attractive appearance, with elegant lines and an aerodynamic profile.
  • Good offer of equipment: The model offers a variety of standard items that are usually optional on competitors, such as a multimedia center, digital air conditioning, and traction and stability controls.
  • Indoor comfort: The HB20 features a well-finished and comfortable interior, with quality materials and good space for passengers and luggage.
  • Efficient motor: Despite reports of direct injection problems, the 1.0 turbo engine offers a good balance between performance and fuel economy.
  • Extensive Warranty: Hyundai offers a 5-year warranty, which gives owners greater peace of mind.

In other words, despite its qualities, the Hyundai HB20 has faced significant challenges. Problems with direct injection and failures in the multimedia center are issues that future owners should consider. It's worth researching and weighing the pros and cons before purchasing this popular compact hatchback.

If there is a problem, it is with the Tgdi Turbo model. I have a 2014 for 3 years, 1.0 3 cylinders naturally aspirated and ZERO PROBLEMS. But the article is clear that the problems are with the tgdi.

I purchased a HB20 1.0 and noticed that it consumes more fuel than the ONIX 1.0.

The article title is biased. The problem, without a doubt, is the fuel used, that is, choosing the gas station is essential. Most vehicles with onboard technology suffer from this problem. You can invest in the HB20 without fear. I've had my Hyundai for almost 5 years, and I've never needed assistance.

Hyundai has serious problems with rust... at least in Salvador a team of Korean experts was in Salvador to find out the reason for the rust in the brand's models.

These problems are not isolated... I gave up on taking it to the dealership... I miss my 2019... I'm just waiting a little while to change the car... I'm not going to buy another HB20... it's not worth stopping at the dealership and getting stuck on foot.
