Meet the Jeddah Tower, the Tallest Building in the World Currently Under Construction in Saudi Arabia. This will be the first Neo-Futurist Skyscraper Three Times Taller than the Eiffel Tower and Promises to be One of the Wonders of Modern Engineering!

Currently, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Shanghai Tower, and the Empire State Building in New York are some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. However, in a few years, the Jeddah Tower, a Neo-Futurist skyscraper planned in Saudi Arabia, will be the tallest building in the world. This will be a building three times taller than the Eiffel Tower with a height of 1,000 meters.

How Many Meters Will the Tallest Building in the World in Saudi Arabia Be?

With a height of 1,000 meters and being a building three times taller than the Eiffel Tower, the Jeddah Tower is located in the city of Jeddah, the second most populous municipality in the Middle Eastern country, in a port area that borders the Red Sea.

The construction of the skyscraper began in 2013; however, the work was halted in 2018, as the Binladin Group, whose president, Bakr bin Laden, was the half-brother of Osama bin Laden, was arrested. Additionally, the pandemic delayed the project, which resumed at the end of last year.

The project is designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. According to the duo to Architectural Digest, the design of the tallest building in the world in Saudi Arabia is rooted in the symbolism of the country while looking to the future by being technologically expressive.

Its slender and subtly asymmetrical silhouette evokes the new growth of palm leaves rising from the ground, a symbol of a new life that heralds the future growth of the kingdom. Before construction was halted, about one-third of the Jeddah Tower had already been built. The expectation is that the works will cost more than $1.2 billion.

The developer behind the tallest building in the world in Saudi Arabia is now seeking new proposals from construction companies to complete the project. As a result, several international construction firms have been invited to present full proposals soon, along with an exact timeline for the project’s completion.

Until construction was halted, about one-third of the building had been completed, approximately 50 floors out of a total of 157, with foundation work already finished.

Designed to be a mixed-use building, the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia will also feature the highest observation deck in the world, a Four Seasons hotel, residences, and offices. The project represents a significant revitalization of the urban core of Jeddah.

The design of the building three times taller than the Eiffel Tower also optimizes residential space with a “three-petal footprint,” creating an aerodynamic shape that reduces wind load. Additionally, it is expected that the tower’s elevator system will be among the most sophisticated in the world, traveling at speeds of 10 meters per second.

Other Innovative Projects in Saudi Arabia

The Jeddah Tower, the tallest building in the world, is not the only attention-grabbing project in Saudi Arabia. In 2018, the construction of the city The Line was announced, a municipality with a length of 170 kilometers where everything can be done on foot in less than 5 minutes.

The city will consist of villages that will have essential services such as schools, medical clinics, leisure, and green spaces close to the homes, so everything can be done by walking.

The city’s services will be located on the first underground floor. The second underground level of The Line will feature a metro line that will run the entire length of the city, connecting the furthest villages.
