Discover the Jeddah Tower, the tallest building in the world that is being built in Saudi Arabia. This will be the first neo-futuristic skyscraper three times the size of the Eiffel Tower and promises to be one of the marvels of modern engineering!

Currently, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, the Shanghai Tower and the Empire State Building, in New York, are some of the largest skyscrapers in the world. However, in a few years, Jeddah Tower, a neo-futuristic skyscraper planned in Saudi Arabia, will be the tallest building in the world. This will be a building three times larger than the Eiffel Tower with a height equivalent to 1.000 meters.

How many meters will the tallest building in the world be in Saudi Arabia?

At 1.000 meters high and a building three times larger than the Eiffel Tower, the Jeddah Tower is located in the city of Jeddah, the second most populous municipality in the Middle Eastern country, in a port area that borders the Red Sea.

Construction of the skyscraper began in 2013, however the work was interrupted in 2018, as the Binladin Group, whose president was Bakr bin Laden, Osama Bin Laden's half-brother, was arrested. Furthermore, the pandemic delayed the project, which was resumed at the end of last year.

The project is signed by AAdrian Smith and Gordon Gill of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. According to the duo on the website Architectural Digest, the design of the world's tallest building in Saudi Arabia is rooted in the country's symbolism, while at the same time looking to the future as it is technologically expressive.

Its slender, subtly asymmetrical silhouette evokes the new growth of palm leaves rising from the earth, a symbol of new life that heralds the future growth of the kingdom. Before construction was halted, about a third of the Jeddah Tower building had already been constructed. The works are expected to cost more than 1,2 billion dollars.

The developer behind the world's tallest building in Saudi Arabia is now seeking new proposals from construction companies to complete the project. As a result, several international construction companies have been invited to submit full proposals soon, along with an exact timeline for project completion.

By the time construction was stopped, around a third of the building had already been completed, around 50 floors out of a total of 157, with foundation work already completed.

Designed to be a mixed-use building, the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia will also feature the world's tallest observatory, a Four Seasons hotel, residences and offices. The project makes a major revitalization of the urban core of Jeddah.

The design of the building three times larger than the Eiffel Tower also optimizes residential space with a “three-petal footprint”, creating an aerodynamic shape that reduces wind load. Furthermore, the tower's elevator system is expected to be one of the most sophisticated in the world, traveling at speeds of 10 meters per second.

Other innovative projects in Saudi Arabia

The Jeddah Tower, the tallest building in the world, is not the only one that attracts attention in Saudi Arabia. In 2018, the construction of the city was announced The Line, a city 170 kilometers long where you can do everything on foot, in less than 5 minutes.

The city will be made up of villages that will have essential services, such as schools, medical clinics, leisure and green spaces close to homes, so that everything can be done on foot.

City services will be in the first basement. The second basement of The Line will feature a metro line that will run the entire length of the city, connecting the most distant villages.
