Union goes to court against the sale of Clara Camarão Refinery, owned by Petrobras, in Rio Grande do Norte
The oil workers union of Rio Grande do Norte is against the sale of the Clara Camarão refinery, which is located in the city of Guamaré-RN. The union filed a public action at the Federal Regional Court of the 5th region to try to stop the sale of the refinery and other Petrobras assets in the state.
As a union request had already been denied in the first instance, the category opted to enter the second instance, thus seeking victory in court. The union points out that the objective of action in justice is to stop the progress of the negotiations and avoid "economic, social and environmental damage".
"We are foreseeing serious consequences in the economic, political, social, cultural and environmental spheres, with emphasis on the loss of income, royalties and projects aimed at citizenship actions and, mainly, the loss of jobs at a time when the country's economy is devastated due to the Covid-19 pandemic”, said Ivis Corsino, general coordinator of Sindipetro.

Understaing the process
Last year, more precisely in August, Petrobras announced that it would sell all the assets of the state-owned company in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. State OA already has proposals for the purchase of assets with values exceeding US$ 1 billion. Petrobras has been negotiating with 3R Petroleum.
The union understands that the sale of Petrobras assets is illegal and, as a result, it was understood that a lawsuit was necessary. The first instance understood that the decision to sell or not the assets in the state of Rio Grande do Norte is not an internal decision of the state-owned company.
