Volkswagen Will Temporarily Suspend The Employment Contracts Of 1,5 Thousand Employees At Its Factory In São Paulo For Up To Five Months
Volkswagen will start operating with only one work shift at the Anchieta factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo, starting November 1. The company will temporarily suspend the employment contracts (lay-off) of 1,5 thousand employees for a period of up to five months. The reason is the lack of components for production, especially semiconductors, according to information from the ABC Metalworkers’ Union. Suspension Of Contracts For Workers At The Volkswagen Factory
According to information from Automotivo Business, the factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo, will suspend the employment contracts of 1,5 thousand employees, the famous “lay-off”. This information has already been confirmed by the metalworkers’ union in the region. Additionally, the factory will start operating with only one shift from next month.
Furthermore, according to the site, the employees of the Anchieta factory have already been notified by the union of this decision, and due to legislation, this suspension can last from two to five months. It is worth recalling that the crisis has also impacted other brands, such as Renault, which opened a voluntary dismissal plan (PDV) and has already implemented lay-off in Paraná, for the same reason as the German brand.

Automakers Continue To Be Affected By The Lack Of Semiconductors
In addition to Volkswagen, the lack of semiconductors has severely impacted Chevrolet’s production in Brazil. Together, they are the automakers that have suffered the most from the crisis in their factories in the national market, which, right after the impacts of the pandemic, have been facing another issue with the scarcity of materials for vehicle production since June.
The lack of these electronic chips has even affected the models that have been made available. At Volkswagen, for example, the 2022 Nivus lost its multimedia center in the entry-level Comfortline version. The remaining configurations received an eight-inch digital instrument panel.
The automaker from ABC Paulista is the third car manufacturer to adopt the lay-off in the last two weeks due to the chip shortage, a problem affecting companies worldwide. Fiat suspended the contracts of 1,8 thousand workers from Betim (MG) for three months starting on the 4th of this month. Renault will implement the measure for 300 employees in São José dos Pinhais (PR) for five months starting on the 30th. The French brand also opened a voluntary dismissal program (PDV) for 250 workers, as well as Honda, which has not disclosed a target but intends to reduce the workforce at its factories in Sumaré and Itirapina (SP).
