Volkswagen will temporarily suspend the employment contracts of 1,5 employees at the São Paulo factory for up to five months
Volkswagen will start operating with only one work shift at the Anchieta factory, in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo, starting on November 1st. The company will temporarily suspend the employment contracts (lay-off) of 1,5 employees for a period of up to five months. The reason is the lack of components for production, especially semiconductors, according to the ABC Metallurgists Union. Suspension of contract for Volkswagen factory workers
According to information from Automotivo Business, the factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo, will suspend the employment contract for 1,5 employees, the famous “lay-off”. This information has already been confirmed by the union of metallurgists in the region. In addition, the factory will operate in just one shift starting next month.
Also according to the website, the employees of the Ancheita factory have already been notified by the union of this decision and, due to the legislation, this suspension can be from two to five months. It is worth remembering that the crisis also affected other brands, as was the case with Renault, which opened a voluntary resignation plan (PDV) and has already joined the lay-off in Paraná, for the same reason as the German brand.
Automakers continue to be hit by semiconductor shortages
In addition to Volkswagen, the lack of semiconductors hit Chevrolet's production in Brazil. Together, they are the automakers that suffered the most from the crisis in their factories in the domestic market, which, shortly after the impacts of the pandemic, since June have faced yet another problem with the shortage of material for vehicle production.
The lack of these electronic chips was even reflected in the models that were made available. At Volks, for example, the Nivus 2022 lost its multimedia center in the Comfortline entry version. The other configurations received the eight-inch digital instrument panel.
The automaker from the ABC region of São Paulo is the third car manufacturer to adopt the lay off in the last two weeks due to the shortage of chips, a problem that affects companies all over the world. Fiat suspended the contracts of 1,8 workers in Betim (MG), for three months from the 4th of this month. Renault will adopt the measure for 300 employees of São José dos Pinhais (PR), for five months starting on the 30th. The French brand also opened a voluntary resignation program (PDV), for 250 workers, as well as Honda, which has not disclosed a target, but intends to reduce the number of employees at the factories in Sumaré and Itirapina (SP).
