The Alumar Consortium has partnered with the National Service of Industrial Learning (Senai) for the training and expansion of the number of women in its workforce, even in aluminum and alumina manufacturing, a traditionally male environment. The training by Senai will take place through the Women in Alumar Reduction project, which aims to train 50 professionals in São Luís for the Smelter operations area. Activities will begin in April of this year.

Present at the virtual meeting that sealed the partnership, held last Friday (07) by Senai, were Rogério Garcês, Coordinator of Professional Education, Technology and Innovation at Senai Maranhão, Gilberto Lopes, Manager of Technology and Innovation Management, and José João Fonseca, Acting Manager of CEPTI – DI. Rogério Garcês recalls that Senai has been a partner of Alumar since its arrival in São Luís, over three decades ago. Now, the challenge of training and integrating women into the production line is yet another testament to the credibility of the relationship between the two entities.
Garcês highlights that Senai demonstrates, with its experience in successful partnerships and training in these formats, that it only contributes to Alumar, a major production company. Senai is committed to leaving a legacy of doing its best for the training of women in São Luís on the production line, with a start planned for April of this year.
Senai Comments on Alumar’s Commitment in Maranhão
Gilberto Lopes, who works in the management of innovation and technology at Senai, spent several years at Alumar and has always observed an effort to incorporate diversity into the company’s operations, and confirms that there were already several women working in the instrumentation and welding sectors.
Lopes states that Alumar is once again trying to break paradigms and expand opportunities for women in São Luís through training in one of the most complex areas. According to Lopes, Senai has the responsibility, given the trust placed by Alumar in the training of women, to show the rest of the country the importance of engaging in a program of this level.
Training Will Be Aimed at Former Students of Senai
Raiane Oliveira stated that the choice of Senai for the training of women in São Luís is due to the historical competence that the organization has acquired as a center of professional education. The manager affirms that the company values the provision of excellent education and, over the years of partnership, Senai has shown its commitment to training students, which impacts the quality of professionals entering the market.
During the meeting, measures and deadlines were discussed for creating the project activity schedule. The 50 women will be selected from the bank of former students trained by Senai. The courses requested by the company in São Luís will be for the sectors of process operator in aluminum and technical in electromechanics.
