The Car That Won the Heart of Many Brazilians, Honda Civic, That Has Been in the Country Since 1992, Will No Longer Be Produced by the Multinational in Brazil and Can Now Only Be Acquired via Importation
The board of the multinational Honda in Brazil had to make the painful decision to stop the production of the Honda Civic, which can now only be purchased through importation when a new generation becomes available abroad in a few months. The decision is due to the high price resulting from taxes and a significant drop in sales volume in the Brazilian market.

This decision was made because the Civic’s main competitor, the Toyota Corolla, has higher sales, even though the sedan sector is losing ground to SUVs. Another reason for the multinational’s decision is the internal competition with the Honda City, which is a slightly smaller sedan but has dimensions similar to the Civic, causing a sales conflict between the two vehicles.

Honda Civic and Its History in Brazil
The Civic is a vehicle that was launched by the multinational in 1973 and is currently in its 10th generation. Since then, it has been voted Car of the Year twice by Autoesporte magazine, in 2007 and 2017.
Honda began exporting the vehicle to Brazil in 1992, with local production beginning in 1997 in Sumaré, São Paulo. In 2008, it was the best-selling sedan in Brazil, surpassing its competing models.
Its latest generation was unveiled in September 2015 and features a “Fastback” design, with the C-pillar angled toward the rear. The interior has undergone several transformations compared to previous generations, including a digital instrument panel and a 7-inch display.
