The Multinational Honda Is Another Automaker Leaving The Brazilian Market
The Multinational Honda announced on Friday (26) that it will suspend operations regarding its vehicle production in Brazil due to the increase of the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent days, the manufacturer has become the eighth company to halt production in the country.

According to the automaker, the suspension of activities will occur at the Ityropin (SP) and Sumaré (SP) plants from Tuesday (30) to April 9. Production is set to resume on the 12th.
“Honda emphasizes that the measures taken aim to maintain the health and safety of people. Furthermore, the company continues to strive to minimize the impact of the pandemic on the value chain, as well as the disturbances to consumers,” stated the automaker in a note.

Compensation for the hours worked will be agreed upon with the Metalworkers’ Union. In addition to Honda, automakers Toyota, Nissan, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Volvo and Scania have suspended operations in Brazil.
Temporary Suspension Of The Multinational Honda May Become Permanent
The temporary suspension of operations at the Sumaré and Itirapina units in the interior of São Paulo will occur from March 30 to April 9. Resumption is scheduled for April 12, according to Honda’s information.
However, in the event of a new wave of the disease, the automaker stated that it may have no forecast for resuming its activities in Brazil. According to Honda, the format of remuneration for the hours not worked during the period is under negotiation with the Metalworkers’ Union.
