All Souls’ Day is celebrated tomorrow (02) and, since it is a national holiday, many Brazilian citizens do not know what they should close and open. In summary, it is estimated that all public institutions, such as universities, INSS agencies, and FGTS, will be closed. As for private companies, such as supermarkets and stores, opening may vary according to their preference in paying their employees.
When an employee of a private company, also known as CLT, works on a holiday, they are entitled to receive 100% overtime on what they normally earn or to take the days off in exchange. For example, working on November 1st and taking off on November 2nd.

It should be noted that there are some professions and companies that cannot close during the holiday, such as doctors. In this case, they must work and receive double pay. Other professions, such as clothing inspectors, may have the day off. Public hospitals, such as SUS, the Unified Health System, also remain open, as do other brands of essential services like pharmacies, supermarkets, and banks. Non-essential services, such as gyms and clothing stores, can choose to open or close.

All Souls’ Day and the Truck Drivers’ Strike
A new truck drivers’ strike was expected for All Souls’ Day, which could last until the end of this week. However, the STF, Federal Supreme Court, issued a ruling that prohibits sector employees from demonstrating on this day and blocking the traffic on highways, thus preventing individuals from traveling and going out during the holiday. Some senators and representatives who did not approve the ruling argue that it is a dictatorship. The workers aimed to block the main roads, such as BR 101, to demand a reduction in fuel prices per liter, as well as a decrease in the minimum retirement age, which is 65 years for men and 60 years for women.
The last demonstration of the sector occurred in September, on Brazil’s Independence Day. That same week, some cities like Fernando de Noronha reported fuel prices exceeding R$ 8.20 per liter. The average price in at least 7 states has already surpassed R$ 7, such as Rio de Janeiro and Acre. Rio Grande do Sul is also facing significant fluctuations.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the truck drivers’ strike has been occurring since the beginning of the day. However, there is no blocking of certain roads, and centralization is happening in other locations. Still, in the same publication made on their social media, they argue that in the Port of Santos/SP, some acts of vandalism were reported. The dispersal was carried out by the PM, Military Police.
Dollar on the Holiday
