Swedish Company Promises to Revamp the Largest Aircraft in the World and Make It Break Its Own Size Record, Now Serving as a Hotel in a New Experience

Seeking to reinvent itself, the Swedish company Ocean Sky Cruises wants to create a hotel concept: the airborne. To achieve this, it will adapt the Airlander, the largest and hybrid aircraft in the world, measuring 92 meters long, to transform it into a floating hotel. In this way, the airship will break its own record in size and reach 98 meters, according to data from BBC News.

This company became famous for being the first in the world to land at the North Pole with an airship of these dimensions. With this new project, Ocean aims to take 16 passengers to the North Pole in a sustainable and luxurious manner, during a 5-day journey entirely in the sky. The aircraft’s engines operate in a hybrid mode, which brings more sustainability, and the rooms and communal spaces are fully luxurious. See how the interior will be in the image below.

The experience in the skies and expedition to the Arctic draws historical inspiration from creations and feats of Norway itself.

“The expedition to the North Pole is for the traveler who wants to experience the Arctic in a unique way, while at the same time contributing to the development of sustainable travel. Ronald Amundsen flew from Svalbard and flew over the North Pole in 1926 with the airship Norge. Now, we are making the same journey, and we will also land at the North Pole. Passengers will enjoy the Arctic nature with serenity and comfort in a modern and efficient flying vehicle. They will be pioneers in a new way of traveling.”

Carl Oscar-Lawaczeck, CEO and Founder of OceanSky Cruises (2022).

Company’s Goal Is to Make Expeditions in the Arctic Region After Landing with the Tourism Aircraft

The first test is scheduled for 2024 and will take passengers to a landing site in the Arctic. From there, they will embark on a day-long excursion through the region’s plains led by climate expert Robert Swan. All expeditions will reference Norway’s historical landmarks, as the company’s CEO commented.

This new initiative is also being sought by other companies in the tourism and travel industry to attract new customers. To achieve this, the sector has been employing more technology, travel modalities, and different destinations and experiences.

Experience of a Hotel in the Skies Is Sustainable and Has Smooth Flight, All Tied to Luxury

The Airlander 10 is designed to offer all the comfort that a 5-star hotel has, but everything in the air. This includes gourmet dishes prepared by renowned chefs, spacious cabins with panoramic windows, and room service.

Furthermore, the flight promises to be smooth at low altitudes, something only possible due to the mechanics employed in airships. Thus, the flight is tranquil and silent to the point of not requiring seatbelts.

And you, would you dare to embark on this adventure?
