Antonov AN-124-100 Is The Second Largest Civil Cargo Aircraft In The World By Capacity And A Recognized Leader In The Air Cargo Market For Transporting Oversized And Heavy Shipments. 

The giant Antonov AN-124-100 landed at Cabo Frio International Airport. The purpose of the trip, which departed from Houston, USA, was to bring more than 40 tons of supplies for the Fluminense industry.

The Antonov AN-124-100 is the second largest civil cargo aircraft in the world by capacity and a recognized leader in the air cargo market for transporting oversized and heavy shipments. 

“We have the second largest runway in the State of Rio de Janeiro, an international-level team, and a complete logistics solution, which allows the region to receive aircraft the size of the Antonov AN-124-100,” says Rodrigo Abreu, the airport’s general director.

About The Second Largest Civil Cargo Aircraft On The Planet

Antonov AN-124-100 is considered the second largest cargo aircraft in the world, second only to the AN-225, also from Antonov. The freighter measures 68.9 meters in length and can carry up to 150 tons of cargo.

In Canada, the AN-124-100 has transported train cars to Ireland. In the United States, a rescue submarine from the U.S. Navy was the “passenger.” The aircraft are also used in humanitarian actions.

About Cabo Frio International Airport

Inaugurated in 1998, Cabo Frio Airport is Brazil’s first public airport under private management. In 2007, its runway was expanded to 2,550 meters, making it the second largest runway in the State of Rio de Janeiro. 

Today, it receives commercial passenger flights from Azul and Gol, cargo commercial flights from Latam, chartered international passenger and cargo flights, as well as general aviation (private flights) and offshore (helicopter flights to oil platforms).

Cabo Frio Airport is equipped to operate large cargo and passenger aircraft, with a capacity to handle 570,000 passengers per year.  

The airport has a strategic location not only for tourism activities on the Costa do Sol (the facility is surrounded by the beautiful beaches of the region), but also for unloading supplies and equipment for the oil and gas industry, which is very strong in the region.
