Wind energy, a promising industry for Brazil
Brazil's potential to generate wind energy is estimated at 500 gigawatts (GW), according to the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica), enough to meet the country's energy demand three times over.

In addition to wind energy, all other renewable energy sources in Brazil also accounted for a significant increase in the energy matrix.

Brazil's wind production in the month of May increased by 6,4% year-on-year to 5.304 average megawatts (MWa), according to preliminary data released by the Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy (CCEE). The share of wind energy rose to 8,2% from 8,0% in the same month of the previous year, according to CCEE data published in InfoMercado Semanal, the weekly newsletter on energy generation and consumption.

All three other major renewable energy sources in Brazil achieved year-over-year growth in May. Solar power generation rose to 488 MWa from 310 MWa, hydropower grew to 49.706 MWa from 45.153 MWa, and the country's biomass plants produced 4.062 MWa, which was 3.892 MWa.
