ABS classifier has granted an approval for Hyundai to produce floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs)
Initially intended for operations in West Africa, Hyundai has recommended that its FPSOs' standardized surface design is adaptable to a range of conditions, potentially offering reduced costs and shorter project timelines. Luiz Feijó Global Offshore ABS Director, said: "We have worked closely with Hyundai using our industry experience to support the development of this innovative concept, which has the potential to streamline the project development lifecycle."
Seon Mook Lim, senior vice president of Hyundai's Offshore Division said, “In today's market, Hyundai's standardized topside design requested by our operators potentially provides more affordable capital expenditure or investment with shorter project schedules, reliability and safety. of safer systems with certified ABS based on a rigorous evaluation process.
“Furthermore, this newly developed product offers great value to the marine market, helping to profitably protect engineering, minimizing risk and increasing procurement and construction projects by enabling the modification of various conditions in West African oil and gas fields with minimal design changes.” ABS also recently granted approval in principle for Hyundai Heavy Industries' deepwater FLNG hull design.
