The Neoenergia Oitis Complex Has a Capacity of 566.5 MW in Wind Energy, Being Part of the Company’s Investment in Renewable Sources
The Oitis Neoenergia Wind Farm, under construction by Neoenergia and located between the states of Piauí and Bahia, has entered the testing period of its first seven wind turbines. The delivery of this phase is one month ahead of the company’s business plan. Additionally, this will be the largest wind energy project of the company in Brazil, considering the installed capacity of 566.5 MW, a quantity sufficient to supply a city with 2.7 million inhabitants.
According to Neoenergia’s Director of Renewable Sources, Laura Porto, the construction of the wind complex is in harmony with the company’s positioning strategy regarding the release of the country’s energy market. Porto further stated that the company believes that renewable energy sources are the path to the decarbonization of the economy. The expectation is that full operation will start in the second half of this year.
The wind energy complex features 103 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.5 MW, and will consist of 12 wind farms. The energy produced in the Neoenergia Oitis wind farms will have two distinct purposes: 96% will be allocated to the Free Contracting Environment (ACL), while 4% will be designated for commercialization in the regulated energy market.

Neoenergia Has Been Investing in Wind Energy Since the Early 2000s
Since the early 2000s, Neoenergia has been betting on wind energy, even when it was still understood as an alternative source. Today, the implementation of projects with renewable sources has become effective through the construction of wind and solar energy parks, in order to expand the generation of clean energy.
In this context, the assets in operation and under construction already total 1.7 GW of installed capacity among wind and solar photovoltaic parks. Moreover, if the hydroelectric plants in operation are added, the company will reach over 4.7 GW of power in renewable sources by the end of this year.
In the first quarter of 2022, Neoenergia invested over R$ 808 million in the renewable sources sector. In addition to Neoenergia Oitis, focused on wind energy, the company completed Neoenergia Chafariz and advanced this year in the construction of Neoenergia Luzia, a solar complex located in Santa Luzia, Paraíba. Together, the three projects will enable the company to achieve over 90% of its installed capacity in clean energy.
