Gerdau announced today (04/19) that it will invest R$ 1 billion in the production of special steels. The amount to be invested will be allocated to the modernization and expansion of businesses to meet the positive outlook for the automotive and machinery and equipment sectors. The largest steel producer in Brazil stated in a statement that the value is part of the global investment announced in February, totaling R$ 3.5 billion. Due to the economic impact of the pandemic, part of the plan’s resources is related to the postponed plan from 2020.
Gerdau’s Plan For Investments In Special Steels
Gerdau stated that investments will be concentrated in the factories of Pindamonhangaba and Mogi das Cruzes, both located in the state of São Paulo and in Charqueadas, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The Mogi das Cruzes plant will reopen its steel mill, with plans to resume activities in the second half of the year. The facility has been shut down since March 2019, and has an annual production capacity of approximately 180 thousand tons, which will be rolled at the Pindamonhangaba plant.
