The thermoelectric works schedule has already been presented, thus opening up new job and business possibilities for Macaé and the surrounding region.

The mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende, met at the construction site of the Marlin Azul thermoelectric plant together with the CEO of the ARKE group, owner of UTE Marlin Azul, Bruno Chevalier; with the Director of Operations, João Lucas Ribeiro, and the project manager Rogério de Souza, this week, and presented the works schedule for the thermoelectric power plant (UTE), the possibilities of new business of the business group to Macaé and region. The expectation now is the undertaking, which will use pre-salt gas, generate at least a thousand direct jobs.

Also present at the meeting were the Municipal Secretary for Economic Development, Rodrigo Vianna, the Secretary for the Environment Juninho Luna and the Secretary for Energy Policies, Tiago Silva.

Marlin Azul is the first thermoelectric plant to win auctions for energy fueled exclusively with gas from the pre-salt layer. The thermoelectric plant has the capacity to generate 565 megawatts (MW), a power that can serve a population of 2,5 million inhabitants. Therefore, the expectation is for good results from the sum of gas production and generation and sale of electricity, with new jobs in these sectors.

“We've been at the top of the ranking of jobs in the state (Rio de Janeiro) for 14 months, thanks to projects like this one. This inaugurates a new chapter in the history of the municipality in which the opportunities multiply and the population finds conditions to work and achieve a better quality of life”.

Words from the mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende

Promise is that operations at the Marlim Azul thermoelectric plant will start in 2023

The Marlin Azul thermoelectric plant, in Macaé, is expected to be ready at the end of 2022, and thus begin the production and supply of electricity using gas exclusively from the pre-salt, from January 2023, with new jobs.

The drop in numbers of cases of Covid-19 due to vaccinations was the impetus for the works at the plant to progress. A National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has been following the stages of the works. Since September 2021, the generator that will compose the UTE's production system has been located on site. The 500-ton equipment is considered one of the most modern and efficient on the planet.
