Truck drivers' unions fear being held responsible for the strike, through the court's stoppage of truck drivers
Despite the mobilization being convened in 2020, the truck drivers' unions consulted by the political analysis company Arko Advice, who assess and consider that the movement will not have membership. They fear being held accountable in court for a truck driver stoppage in the middle of the pandemic.
“This is not the time for any stoppage, as the presidential decree that makes cargo transport an essential service is still in effect. Any stoppage of transport at that time could become a crime for those who promoted and joined the strike. We also understand that the strike has a political nature and not a benefit to the category”, argues Everaldo Bastos, President of the Autonomous Truck Drivers Union of Vale do Paraíba (SP).
