The Clio E-Tech, Renault's new hybrid car, was spotted on Brazilian streets and could arrive in Brazil next year. The model stands out for its high fuel economy and state-of-the-art technology

The Clio E-Tech, Renault's new hybrid car, was recently seen in tests on Brazilian streets. The current generation model, which is sold in Europe, is equipped with a non-rechargeable hybrid powertrain and stands out for its high fuel economy. The Renault Clio bust in Brazil comes after the French automaker announced its new strategic plan for the country, focused on more equipped and expensive models and also on electrification, with the promise of the arrival of hybrid cars, hybrids plug-in and all-electric cars.

Renault's new hybrid car delivers 140 horsepower

Until then, the only electric cars of the brand in the domestic market are the Renault Kangoo and Zoe e-Tech and there is no hybrid car being sold here. During the announcement of the new strategy, the automaker also stated the coming of the 100% electric Renault Kwid to Brazil next year.

Returning to the European Renault Clio E-Tech, the model has a 1.6 liter fuel engine with 91 horsepower connected to two electric motors, which generate 20 and 49 horsepower, respectively.

The first engine propels the vehicle and the other works as a generator, for a combined power of 140 horsepower. Its battery has 1,2 kWh and the model also has an EV button, which according to Renault provides an autonomy of 5 km more with the electric motor at a maximum speed of 75 km/h. In this way, the driver will be able to monitor the flow of energy through indicators on the panel.

Only 4 liters of fuel consumed in 100 km

According to data from Motor1 Spain, the new hybrid car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9,9 seconds and stands out for its average consumption of 4 liters of fuel per 100 km, or 25 km/l, a great range, if we take into account that it is a conventional hybrid car and not a plug-in hybrid car, the latter has larger batteries that allow greater autonomy in electric mode and even better consumption.

Anyway, there is still no announcement about the official arrival of the automaker's model in Brazil, which may or may not occur in the coming months. In this case, it is most likely that the brand is testing the engine to assess its application in the country.

In Europe, the Renault Captur can be equipped with the same E-Tech hybrid system or the E-Tech hybrid plug-in, which guarantees a range of 65 km in electric mode and promises consumption of 66,7 km per liter of fuel with charged batteries. 

Renault plans to bring cheaper electric models to Brazil

The French automaker announced the launch of the electric Kwid for next year, and it could reach dealerships as the cheapest electric car in Brazil and take the title from the JAC E-JS1, which is currently priced around Rs. $159.9 thousand.

According to data, the model could reach the value of R$ 130 thousand. In addition, it is possible that the model is equipped with a 33 kW engine, generating a power of 45 horsepower and a torque of 12,6 kgfm.
