New Portal Replaces The Old Covid.gov, Criticizes Health Measures And Removes Information About Vaccines And Tests
The U.S. government, led by Donald Trump, launched a new website about Covid on Friday (18), advocating the thesis that the virus originated in a lab in China, attacking authorities like Fauci and Biden, and initiating the formal exit of the country from the WHO.
Trump Redesigns Covid Site And Reignites Controversy Over Virus Origin
The new site launched by the Trump administration on Friday completely overhauls the content of the former federal portal Covid.gov. The main novelty is the explicit defense of the theory that the SARS-CoV-2 virus originated in a lab in the city of Wuhan, in China. This hypothesis, according to the site, would explain the initial spread of Covid and discredits the natural origin version previously promoted by global health agencies.
In addition, the portal directly accuses figures such as former President Joe Biden, immunologist Anthony Fauci, and the World Health Organization (WHO) of mishandling the health crisis. The content also criticizes measures such as lockdowns, mask-wearing, and social distancing, positioning these strategies as ineffective in combating Covid.

Content About Tests, Vaccines, And Treatments Has Been Removed
The redesign of the site did not only bring new accusations. Practical information that was previously available to the public, such as free testing, vaccine scheduling, and access to treatments for Covid, has been completely removed from the platform. The change has caused concern among public health experts, who see setbacks in the government’s informational actions.
CIA Assessment Supports The Theory Advocated By Trump
In January 2025, the CIA released a preliminary analysis indicating that the lab leak hypothesis was “more likely” as the origin of Covid. However, the agency itself classified its confidence in the conclusion as “low,” reinforcing that both natural and artificial origins remain plausible. Nonetheless, the assessment was enough to fuel the current administration’s narrative.
Reactions From China And Silence From The WHO
The response from the Chinese government was immediate. In an official statement, Beijing authorities labeled the allegations as unfounded and accused the United States of turning Covid into a political tool. The World Health Organization, directly cited on the new site, chose not to comment immediately.
Trump Signs Order For US Exit From The WHO
On the same day the portal was launched, Donald Trump signed an executive order initiating the process of the United States’ withdrawal from the WHO. According to the president, the organization failed to handle the Covid crisis and is unduly influenced by its member states, particularly highlighting the actions of China.
