New Weapon System With Manual Aim Already Takes Down Drones, Missiles, And Aircraft In Operational Tests

Ukraine officially introduced the Tryzub Laser Weapon System, developed to neutralize drones, missiles, and aircraft. The technology was demonstrated in a video during a European defense conference and is in the final testing phase.

Tryzub Laser Weapon System Enhances Ukraine’s Air Defense Capability

The Tryzub Laser Weapon System was revealed as the latest technological asset of the Ukrainian forces. Unveiled at the “European Defense Industry” conference, the equipment was showcased in action through a video released by Commander Vadym Sukharevskyi, responsible for Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.

The Tryzub, also called “Trident,” can destroy attack drones, aerial bombs, and cruise missiles from up to 3 km away. For larger targets, such as helicopters, airplanes, and reconnaissance drones, the range is up to 5 km. For optical dazzle, the beam reaches up to 10 km.

Tryzub Aims With Joystick And Can Operate For Unlimited Time

The Tryzub Laser Weapon System still uses manual aiming, controlled by a joystick. However, it is already integrated with an electro-optical station, making visual tracking and accurate firing easier. One of its differentiators is autonomy: the system relies solely on the availability of electrical power, allowing it to operate continuously without ammunition reloading.

Announced in December 2024, the Tryzub was developed in a few months by Ukrainian engineers. Ukraine has become the fifth country in the world to successfully test a functional laser weapon capable of taking down targets flying at more than 2,000 meters altitude.

Tryzub Laser Weapon System Will Be Mounted On Drones And Mobile Units

The innovation is not limited to land use. The Tryzub Laser Weapon System has already been mounted on the Alligator 9 surface drone, creating a new version of naval armament. Ukrainian forces also plan to replace machine guns with lasers in mobile air defense units, increasing efficiency and reducing costs.

The introduction of the Tryzub represents a strategic step in the face of kamikaze drone and ballistic missile attacks. With lower operational costs and quick response, Ukraine enhances its air defense capabilities amid a prolonged conflict scenario.
