A Focker 272 GTC, manufactured in Itajaí, located in the North Coast of Santa Catarina, received adaptations so that the owner, who is paraplegic with reduced trunk mobility, can board and also enter the sea with the assistance of a chair installed at the stern.

Daniel Rosello purchased the vessel in July of this year. The adaptation was developed to allow him to navigate and access the water during outings, two objectives mentioned by Rosello himself when discussing the project.
The solution utilizes a stainless steel accessibility chair originally designed for swimming pools. The equipment operates on batteries, supports up to 150 kg, and can be used for transferring between the pier and the boat as well as taking Daniel directly from the vessel to the sea.
“Little by little, we are making all our dreams come true,” Daniel stated while commenting on the experience.
He also related the adaptation to the ability to enjoy the vessel beyond just navigation. “For me, it means a lot. I will be able to sail, I will be able to swim, and enjoy the sea in different beaches, in different places,” he said.
Stern Platform Facilitated the Adaptation
The chosen vessel was the Focker 272 GTC, measuring 8.58 meters in length, produced by Fibrafort. The manufacturer reported that the structural characteristics of the model aided in the installation of the chair, especially the configuration of the boat’s rear.
According to the company, the boat features a spacious, flat stern platform with room for movement. This area received the equipment responsible for the owner’s transfer, concentrating access between dry land, the vessel, and the water at the rear.
Fibrafort also pointed out that the fiberglass structure was one of the elements that contributed to the adaptation. The official page of the Focker 272 GTC compiles manufacturer information about the model produced in Santa Catarina.
In Daniel’s project, the chair is positioned at the stern and serves two different situations. During boarding, it allows transfer from the pier into the boat; during outings, it can again be used to make the journey between the vessel and the sea.
The installation thus took advantage of an area of the boat that already provides direct contact with the water. The material released about the project emphasizes the dimensions and configuration of this area as factors that favored the incorporation of the accessibility equipment.

The adaptation was handled by Porto do Rio, a dealership of Fibrafort located in Caraguatatuba, on the North Coast of São Paulo. The company developed the project for the vessel purchased by Daniel and installed the chair originally intended for use in pools.
The Porto do Rio website showcases the company’s activities in the nautical sector and its work with Fibrafort vessels. In the case of Daniel’s Focker 272 GTC, the job involved integrating the equipment into the boat’s structure to address the owner’s access needs.
The adaptation does not transform the chair into a conventional seat on the vessel. Its function is to facilitate transfer between different levels and environments, allowing Daniel to leave the pier area, be placed aboard, and subsequently reach the water from the rear of the boat.
The material regarding the project states that the system is battery-powered and has a capacity of up to 150 kg. There were no details on any alterations to the original mechanism of the chair aside from the installation carried out at the stern of the boat.
The project also encompasses stages conducted in two states: the Focker 272 GTC was manufactured in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, while the adaptation was developed by the dealership located in Caraguatatuba, on the São Paulo coast.
For Daniel, access to the sea is central to the use he intends to make of the vessel. When discussing the project, he emphasized that it was not just about having a boat, but about having an adapted vessel, a result he attributed to the collaboration of those involved in the initiative.
