Fiat Topolino is back in the automotive industry. The classic from the Italian brand arrives in electric format and with a focus on younger audiences.

Fiat, the Italian giant, surprised the automotive industry by reviving one of its most classic and important models from the past for this year. This is the Fiat Topolino, a popular car that has gained modern contours and air, which can make life easier for those who want to spend little, but still need to get around big cities.

Fiat Topolino costs around R$39 thousand (in direct conversion and without fees)

The Italian automaker was successful with a model launched in 1937, which gained another chance until 1955, when another icon took its place. Now, customers will have a chance to get a taste of what this Fiat classic was like.

The Fiat Topolino, which was the first brand's truly high-volume popular car in the automotive industry, ceased to exist with the launch of the Nuova 500, in 1955. Now, the company will revive the model, based on a derivation of the Citroen Ami

According to data, Italians can now purchase the Fiat Topolino for 7.544 euros, the equivalent of R$39 thousand in direct conversion, which is worth half of a Brazilian compact hatch. This popular car, however, is only suitable for use in the city, and not on the roads.

In the European automotive industry, this model is a recreational quadricycle and not a multi-purpose family car. In other words, the Fiat Topolino is a new generation of urban cars made for just two passengers.

Just like the Citroën model, which has already been presented in Brazil to some audiences at closed events, the Fiat Topolino can be driven by people aged 14 and over (in the case of European legislation), marking a new stage on the path to electrification following the debut of the battery-powered Fiat 500 in 2020.

In terms of specifications, the new Fiat Topolino should maintain the same characteristics as the Ami. The length should be around 2,41 meters, while the width and height should be 1,39m and 1,52m, respectively.

Most likely, Fiat's popular car will be driven by a 6 kW electric motor powered by a 5,5 kWh battery (rechargeable from 0 to 100% in about 3 hours by connecting to a household socket), sufficient for a range approximately 75 km.

Through the photos released by the Italian brand it is possible to notice all the aesthetic innovations compared to the Ami. Fiat's style is inspired by historic models from the 50s and 60s, with the rounded shapes of the headlights and the gray stripes that resemble the chrome of classic cars.

The model is already a success in the Italian automotive industry, with 10 thousand orders. There is a payment plan for customers, with a down payment of 2.582 euros and 48 installments of 39 euros per month, which amounts to around R$200 per month.

Fiat launches another small electric vehicle doors

In August this year, the stellantis, one of the largest automotive groups in the world, announced its plans to enter the cheap electric car market with a model inspired by the classic Fiat. Stellantis' announcement comes at an important time when the automotive industry is witnessing a rapid transition to electric cars.

Competition in the sector with a focus on low cost is becoming increasingly heated, leveraging innovations in automakers' options.

According to Oliver Francois, CEO of FIAT, in a recent interview, the future popular car will be presented in July next year and will have a price below 25 thousand euros without taking tax incentives into account.
