Governor of Maranhão, together with other entities, inaugurates the Porto do Futuro program, which aims to develop research and train new professionals to work in Porto do Itaqui, in São Luís

O Governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, announced this Friday (18th) Porto do Futuro, a Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) Incentive Program. One of the purposes of the program is to train professionals for the job market and also to work in the Port of Itaqui, in São Luís. Opportunities will be offered through a partnership between the Foundation for Research and Scientific and Technological Development of Maranhão (Fapema) and the Maranhão Port Administration Company (Emap).

The Port of the Future is a research program focused on projects that are part of the port sector from the axes of operations, port city relationship, environment, sustainable socioeconomic development, public management and technological development. Research grants will be offered to graduate programs for students in Maranhão, aid to research projects, recognition of articles, exchange and scientific journalism work.

The surveys must have as their theme one of the axes of the program's target in Maranhão, all focused on the port sector, such as operations, port-city relationship, environment, among others. According to Governor Flávio Dino, launching a research program is the result of the partnership between the Port of Itaqui, in São Luís, and Fapema.

The process is being led by Emap, managed by Ted, which represents around BRL 40 million in investments in research projects, scholarships and researchers who will work on themes that are of interest to the Port of Itaqui, in São Luís. The program will develop knowledge, promote research and innovation, as well as projects that can improve the port.

According to Governor Flávio Dino, Fapema will be responsible for publicizing the notices in the future. The projects will be developed by Maranhão institutions such as UFMA, UEMA, UemaSul, IEMA, and other private institutions.

Everyone will be invited by the entity to participate. Therefore, it is believed that the Port of Itaqui will receive contributions from researchers to improve its activities and grow as a project promoter, generating jobs and income.

The president of EMAP, Ted Lago, pointed out that, through this investment, the Port of Itaqui, which is considered a hub in logistics and economy, could also become a knowledge hub in port technology. Ted claims that the project is innovative not just for São Luís or Maranhão, but for the whole of Brazil.

Fapema pronounces on program in Maranhão

In addition to the president of EMAP and the governor of the state, the president of Fapema, André Santos, states that the program for the Port of Itaqui is a two-way street, which generates benefits for the entire port system and the entire research society of the state.

The opportunity for state researchers to access essential resources makes this specialization possible, not only for professors, but also for master's, doctoral and even high school students, such as IEMA and IFMA.
