Petrobras may officially announce the suspension of all COMPERJ works at any time for at least two months. About the employees who carry out the works in the petrochemical complex, there has already been a meeting between the company and the municipal authorities of Itaboraí and the Sanitary Surveillance.

Until then, only 30% of the activities are being carried out and the other 70% paralyzed. Of the stopped works are the construction works of the Gas Treatment Unit (UPGN) of the Chinese company Kerui, the utility works, being carried out by a consortium led by Toyo Setal and the Flare works, being carried out by MIP.

Workers who are active must be placed on collective vacations in order to avoid contagion of the coronavirus. Reports from some employees say that the conditions in which they were kept were precarious, with the possibility of contamination in accommodation and transport to the works.

Responsible for Comperj, Petrobras assured that it was already taking measures to reduce the number of workers in the works since the 16th, when a public health emergency was declared in the state.

Among the actions, the state-owned company mentioned the daily temperature check of all workers and shift scheduling, adjustments in the cafeteria and transportation. The lack of security conditions was also the reason for public action, authored by councilor Jones Moura, President of the Public Security Commission of the Rio Chamber.
