More than 500 leaders from the public and private sectors discussed sustainability, bioenergy, and climate, reinforcing the strategic role of agriculture in the global agenda.

A high-level discussion on sustainability took place on September 8, 2025, in São Paulo. A high-level discussion on sustainability took place on September 8, 2025, in São Paulo. The special edition of Green Power, organized by CNN Brazil, brought together political authorities, executives, and experts. The goal was, above all, to discuss Brazil’s role in the international climate agenda, focusing on agriculture, energy transition, and environmental preservation.

Tropical Agriculture Highlighted as Strategic Asset

Former Minister of the Environment Izabella Teixeira stated that agriculture should be seen as a solution and not as a climate problem. For her, Brazilian agribusiness has the conditions to become a global reference in emission reduction.

Furthermore, Teixeira explained that tropical agriculture is a strategic asset. However, the country still faces the challenge of reconciling production and environmental preservation. Therefore, the former minister emphasized the importance of the social dimension in the debate. She highlighted the climate refugees and the need for integration among the different “Brazils”.

Teixeira also stressed the expectations surrounding COP30, which will take place in November 2025, in Belém. The event will therefore be crucial in aligning Brazil’s strategies with global decarbonization demands.

Deforestation Compromises Brazil’s International Image

Former Executive Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, João Paulo Capobianco, stated that Brazil maintains the title of “green powerhouse”. However, it suffers from the impacts of high deforestation.

Capobianco recalled that the rates have fallen across all biomes, including the Cerrado. Nevertheless, the numbers remain high, and thus, distract from the country’s positive environmental results.

He also advocated for greater incentives for carbon sequestration policies. Thus, rural producers can actively participate and consolidate Brazil’s positive image in the international arena.

Energy Transition Advances with Ethanol and Electrification

During the energy panel, João Irineu Medeiros, an executive from Stellantis, highlighted that decarbonization can advance with the combination of electric vehicles and ethanol.

According to him, over 30% of the Brazilian fleet already runs on ethanol. The renewable fuel, therefore, offers similar performance to electric vehicles when it comes to emission reduction.

In the same vein, Cesar Barros, CEO of the Canavieira Technology Center, emphasized the efficiency of sugarcane. He stated that it is possible to increase productivity without expanding the planted area. This ensures greater resilience in the face of climate change and strengthens the role of ethanol as a strategic fuel.

Special Series on Regional Integration Announced

The meeting also marked the launch of the series “Bioceanic Route: Brazil Towards the Pacific”, presented by journalist Caio Junqueira.

The production will consist of five episodes aired on CNN Prime Time starting on September 15, 2025. The series will, therefore, showcase the challenges and opportunities of the bioceanic corridor, which will connect the Atlantic to the Pacific and integrate Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.

On September 20, 2025, CNN will air a special documentary featuring the main moments of the series. The proposal is primarily to show how the route can drive exports and strengthen the region’s economies.

Commitment to Sustainability Reinforced

In addition to promoting discussions, CNN Brazil compensated 12.1 tons of carbon dioxide emitted during the event.

The special edition of Green Power also had the support of Stellantis, Bayer, and the Government of Mato Grosso, which participated as sponsors. Thus, the initiative solidified the commitment to sustainable practices.

Strategic Impacts Discussed at the Meeting

  • Tropical agriculture presented as a global climate solution.
  • Deforestation remains a central challenge to Brazil’s international image.
  • Ethanol and electrification seen as viable paths to sustainable mobility.
  • Sugarcane identified as a strategic fuel in the energy transition.
  • Bioceanic Route launched as a logistical alternative for regional integration.

The meeting confirmed that Brazil is a central piece in the global climate agenda. However, the country still needs to align production, preservation, and social inclusion.

In light of this, the question remains: will the country be able to transform its potential into global leadership by COP30 in Belém?
