The Al Lusail, a 123-meter megayacht owned by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, returned to service after a seven-month refit. Valued at around $500 million, the vessel left Lemwerder on June 20, 2026, before the summer season.

Built by Lürssen and delivered in 2017, the yacht is nearing a decade of operation.

Al Lusail underwent technical revision before the summer of 2026

The megayacht was last seen in Malaga in mid-November 2025. During the following months, it likely remained at the Lürssen network facilities in the Bremen and Lemwerder region in Germany.

The location is among the few capable of accommodating private vessels over 100 meters. After the work, the Al Lusail departed Lemwerder on June 20 and arrived in Gibraltar six days later.

Lürssen confirmed that the yacht returned to service but did not disclose all the details of the refit. The period at the shipyard likely involved technical checks and inspections necessary to keep the vessel in operational condition.

Among the services mentioned are inspections of the hull and underwater equipment, maintenance of the propeller and rudder, generator overhauls, care of the air conditioning system, and updates related to automation.

Technical and class checks were also carried out. These procedures are used to assess essential systems, components, and structures of vessels of this size before their return to voyages.

Painting, Glass, and Teak Increase the Complexity of the Renovation

In addition to the technical part, the renovation would have focused efforts on the yacht’s external appearance. The work included a complete repainting of the hull and maintenance of the teak areas distributed across the six decks.

The preparation and application of paint on large yachts can consume a significant portion of the time in the shipyard. On projects of this scale, a complete paint job can cost more than $15 million.

Another point of attention is the extensive glass facades of the Al Lusail. The glazing covers much of the superstructure, allowing panoramic views and increasing the entry of natural light into the interior spaces.

The combination of curved surfaces, large glass panels, lighting, and detailed finishing makes the process more complex.

The maintenance must preserve the appearance of the ensemble without compromising the visual quality that characterizes the vessel.

The exterior was designed by H2 Yacht Design, while the interior was the responsibility of March & White. The internal spaces remain kept under secrecy.

Available information indicates that the internal design is organized around a large central atrium.

This configuration enhances the sense of space and reduces the appearance of long corridors, common in large vessels.

Yacht Accommodates 36 Guests and Has Six Decks

With 8,489 GT of internal volume, the Al Lusail is among the largest yachts ever built. Its 123 meters are equivalent to 404 feet, distributed across a six-deck structure.

The vessel can accommodate up to 36 guests in 18 suites. Other spaces are designated for up to 56 crew members, responsible for operation, maintenance, and service during the trips.

Amenities mentioned include a beach club, pools, jacuzzis, helipad, cinema, gym, beauty salon, spa, wellness areas, and spaces prepared for barbecues.

The yacht also uses custom tenders from Compass and an 8.2-meter semi-rigid inflatable boat. These smaller vessels support guest transportation and activities conducted outside the megayacht.

Renovation May Have Cost Around $35 Million

Considering the size of the Al Lusail, its age, and the seven months of work, the total estimated cost for the renovation is approximately $35 million. Lürssen, however, has not officially disclosed the project’s value.

The megayacht is powered by two MTU diesel engines and can reach a maximum speed of 19 knots. Its fuel capacity reaches 500,000 liters.

With the tanks filled, the indicated range is approximately 4,500 nautical miles. After leaving the shipyard and arriving in Gibraltar, the yacht was once again available for the Qatari royal family’s travels.

The Al Lusail belongs to Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Al Thani family governs Qatar and has its wealth linked, among other factors, to gas reserves and the Qatar Investment Authority, chaired by the emir.
