New Axial Flow Motor from Orbis Electric Can Be Installed in the Wheels, Offers Up to 97% Efficiency and Increases Range by 20%

The future of electric cars remains open as different companies seek their own solutions for zero-emission electric motor systems.

Among them, the American company Orbis Electric has just announced the HaloDrive, an axial flow motor-generator designed to deliver high performance, greater efficiency, and low cost.

The project relies on a modular architecture of four components that allows for different applications without losing thermal stability.

Compact Motor Inside the Wheel

The HaloDrive was developed to be integrated into a wheel. This choice reduces the total weight of the vehicle and increases the range by up to 20%.

According to the company, this electric motor proposal combines compactness with four main advantages.

The first is torque and power density, which reach 100 Nm/kg. This value places the motor on par with the performance of a V8. The second advantage is versatility.

The modular, compact, and configurable architecture allows for multiple drive positions without structural changes.

In addition, the company claims that transmission costs can be up to 35% lower compared to radial flow motors.

The fourth advantage is efficiency, estimated at up to 97%, essential for extending the range of electric vehicles.

Company Statements

Chance Claxton, CEO of Orbis Electric, states that the vision of the HaloDrive is to accelerate the global transition to electrification.

According to him, the motor seeks to eliminate common barriers, such as implementation costs, manufacturing risks, and performance limitations.

Claxton also emphasizes that the system is powerful, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.

Marcus Hays, founder and CTO, reiterates that the focus has always been on creating a compact motor adaptable to future energy demands.

He notes that the HaloDrive reduces risks associated with rare earth materials, ensuring price stability and greater availability. For Hays, the system places the company at an advantage amid increasing sustainability standards.

Multiple Applications

Although designed to be installed in wheels, the HaloDrive can serve other sectors.

Orbis cites maritime transport, aerospace platforms, and even use as a stationary industrial power generator. This versatility expands the technology’s reach and reinforces its modular nature.

The first tests involved passenger vehicle manufacturers as well as fleets of heavy trucks.

As an all-wheel drive system and a replacement for diesel generators, the HaloDrive has recorded positive results. The fuel efficiency of these fleets improved by up to 61%, according to company data.

Orbis Electric considers the launch in the United States strategic because transport is the main source of CO₂ emissions.

Data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows that the sector accounts for 39% of emissions in the country and 12% worldwide.

In this context, the HaloDrive emerges as an alternative to reduce impacts and support the energy transition.
