More Affordable Prices Drive Solar Energy Adoption
The beginning of 2024 brought good news for solar energy enthusiasts in Brazil, with a significant 5% reduction in prices. This decline was mainly driven by the drop in the value of polysilicon, the crucial raw material for manufacturing solar panels. With a new average price of R$ 2.76/Wp, this is the lowest rate ever recorded, according to data from Radar, an ongoing study on the evolution of solar energy prices in the country, conducted by Solfácil, a leader in the solar solutions ecosystem in Latin America.
Impact of the Reduction in Polysilicon Prices
The reduction in the price of polysilicon had a direct effect on the decrease in production costs for solar panels. Although the drop in prices for this material in the first quarter of 2024 was not abrupt, the residual effects of the significant declines in 2023 continue to benefit the market. This trend of lower prices is crucial for the expansion of solar energy, making it more accessible to a broader range of consumers and encouraging investments in larger-scale projects.

The Radar study also highlighted that the price reduction was consistent across all regions of Brazil. The Midwest emerged as the leader in affordability, with the lowest average price of R$ 2.67/Wp, reflecting a decrease of 3.61%. The Southeast and Northeast were not far behind, both averaging R$ 2.74/Wp. In the Northeast, the reduction was even more significant, reaching 6.16%.
