Starting in November, Doctors Will Have an Online System for Issuing Certificates, Preventing Fraud and Increasing Security for Companies and Patients
Starting in November 2024, the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) will implement new rules for the issuance of medical certificates in Brazil. In summary, these changes aim to strengthen the integrity of the documents, preventing fraud and enhancing security for all parties involved.
With the Atesta CFM digital platform, doctors will finally be able to issue certificates online with digital selection, preventing forgery and promoting more reliable document management. However, this measure will only become mandatory starting in March 2025, providing, therefore, an adaptation period for professionals, according to the site Você RH.
How Will the Atesta CFM Platform Work?
Basically, the Atesta CFM platform will act as a secure and easily accessible online system for doctors. In other words, when needing to issue a certificate, the doctor will access the system with their Federal Council of Medicine credentials. Then, they will be able to issue the document directly through the platform, which will automatically provide a unique verification code, ensuring the document’s protection. Moreover, the patient will be able to share the certificate with their company, or, if preferred, authorize direct sending to the employer, ensuring greater convenience.

For businesses, this innovation represents a positive change, as the verification code allows for a quick check in the system. Thus, a validity verification will be much more efficient and secure.
How Will Access Work in Areas with Limited Internet?
Despite the advancement, CFM also considers that some medical service locations still have limited internet access. With this in mind, the Atesta CFM platform will also offer a solution: the printing of certificate blocks that already include the same selection codes. However, the doctor will need to enter this data into the system as soon as they have internet access, ensuring that all documents are available for online verification. This way, while accessibility to the platform is expanded, allowing doctors in different contexts to continue issuing certificates securely.
Adaptation Period and Mandatory Use Starting 03/2025
Initially, the Atesta CFM platform will be available starting November 5, 2024. At this time, doctors, clinics, and hospitals will have 180 days to adapt their processes and familiarize themselves with the system. Thus, by March 5, 2025, the use of the platform will be optional, allowing professionals to transition gradually. After this period, however, the use of the Atestado CFM will be mandatory, establishing a new standard of security and reliability in the issuance of medical certificates in Brazil.
Benefits of the Atesta CFM Platform for All Parties Involved
The adoption of the new platform promises numerous advantages for doctors, companies, and patients. With the implementation of this system, all involved will gain in security, practicality, and transparency:
- Reduction of Forgery: With the verification code, the risk of forgery decreases drastically, providing a reliable consultation system for companies, who will be able to quickly validate the presented certificates.
- Quick and Easy Access: Thanks to the online platform, doctors can issue certificates quickly and send the document directly to the patient or, if authorized, to the company, ensuring convenience.
