Celestial Suite of the former AstroWorld Hotel was a symbol of luxury in the 1960s and today draws attention for remaining almost intact, even after decades of abandonment.

A million-dollar penthouse, created to impress celebrities, has once again sparked curiosity in Houston, Texas.

The Celestial Suite, located at the top of the former AstroWorld Hotel, was considered one of the most luxurious spaces in the United States between the late 1960s and the 1970s.

Currently, the place is abandoned. Even so, its rooms preserve marble, golden details, and signs of an era marked by excess, fantasy, and sophistication.

Million-dollar project became a symbol of luxury in Houston

The Celestial Suite was built for about US$ 1 million. In 2026 values, this cost would exceed US$ 9 million, according to the portal All That’s Interesting.

The project involved Harper Goff, an Oscar-winning set designer.

The penthouse was planned as an exclusive experience. Therefore, it featured Tiffany crystals, 24-karat gold, marble, and themed environments.

The luxury was so intense that, according to reports cited about the place, even Elvis Presley would have considered the suite “too extravagant.”

Themed environments marked the penthouse

The penthouse had two levels and 13 themed environments, according to the survey by All That’s Interesting.

Each room had its own theme. Thus, the suite functioned not just as a hotel room, but as a true luxury setting.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the space was associated with wealthy guests, celebrities, and influential personalities.

Records gathered by Hilary Schuhmacher Photography indicate that the suite was once remembered as one of the most expensive accommodations in the world at its time.

Video rekindled curiosity about the place

Decades later, interest in the Celestial Suite has grown again on social media.

An urban explorer from Houston, identified as @houstonurbex, posted images of the interior of the penthouse on TikTok.

The video surpassed 132 thousand views and presented the place as the “abandoned Elvis Presley penthouse in Houston.”

In the images, there are dark rooms, dusty windows, worn carpets, and luxurious details still visible.

Even with the abandonment, the environments still show the original grandeur of the project.

Abandonment turned luxury into a time capsule

Currently, the Celestial Suite no longer displays the same glamour of the past.

The penthouse remains almost intact in several areas. Therefore, it has come to be seen as a forgotten time capsule.

The contrast is striking.

On one side, there is gold, crystals, marble, and history. On the other, there is silence, dust, decay, and empty rooms.

Why does this suite still arouse so much curiosity?

The strength of the Celestial Suite lies precisely in this clash between luxury and abandonment.

The penthouse was born as a symbol of wealth, creativity, and futuristic optimism in Houston.

Now, decades later, it survives as a reminder of a time when hotels also wanted to look like movie sets.
