Jhofran Uchasara’s story touched many because it encompasses determination, solidarity, and a love for study. The 9-year-old boy, who lives in Peru, raffled off his own bicycle to manage traveling to the Math World Championship in Canada, and returned home with a gold medal.

The competition brought together young people from 14 countries. Even at such a young age, Jhofran displayed quick reasoning and precision that impressed the evaluators.

He answered 30 questions in just 37 minutes, thus surpassing older participants with more experience in international competitions.

The result was the gold medal. Peru celebrated with pride the boy’s achievement, which became a symbol of discipline and focus.

The performance reinforced the idea that encouragement for study, combined with personal effort, can open important doors for students from any background.
