At just 10 years old, Sophia Helena Moreira de Oliveira has already achieved a milestone that many artists take decades to reach. The student from the Adventist Education Network, living in Madureira, Rio de Janeiro, was selected in an international contest and will have two works displayed at the Louvre Carousel in Paris in October 2024.

The information was announced by the official portal of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Brazil, which highlighted the girl’s journey from her first drawings at the Adventist College of Jacarepaguá to the international achievement at the world’s most visited museum.

Moreover, this accomplishment represents not just a personal victory. It symbolizes, above all, the strength of Brazilian talent that transcends borders and gains recognition in one of the most important cultural centers in the world.

Talent Discovered In Childhood

Sophia’s story begins early. At just 6 years old, while studying in Pre II at the Adventist College of Jacarepaguá, her teacher noticed something different in the student’s strokes. Unlike other children her age, Sophia displayed artistic skills above average.

In light of this, the teacher contacted her mother, Daniele Moreira, and recommended that she invest in her daughter’s gift. From that moment on, what was merely a natural skill began to receive direction and encouragement.

As the years went by, her talent became increasingly evident. At 7 years old, Sophia asked her mother for her first canvas. It was then that one of her first paintings emerged: the figure of Jesus, later displayed at a fair of the Adventurers Club, a children’s program of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that promotes recreational, educational, and spiritual activities.

Later, at 9 years old, she began taking classes at a specialized studio. On her first day, she started painting her first professional canvas with acrylic paint, entitled “The House of Friburgo.” According to reports, both the teacher and classmates were impressed by the girl’s artistic maturity.

Currently, Sophia produces landscapes, animals, and abstract works in acrylic paint. Her goal, according to her own words, is to convey joy, positive thoughts, and interest in art and culture through her paintings.

Madureira, a traditional neighborhood in the carioca suburbs, now symbolically joins the international artistic map. This is because Sophia was selected in a global contest that chooses young talents for display at the Louvre Carousel, a space adjacent to the famous French museum dedicated to the promotion of new artists.

The exhibition is slated for October 2024, and two works by the young Brazilian will be present at the event. Thus, at just 10 years old, she becomes one of the youngest artists in Brazil to have work showcased in this international circuit.

The president of the Rio Sul Association (ARS), Pastor Geovane Souza, emphasized the significance of this achievement. According to him, seeing children discovering their talents and dedicating them to God brings a profound sense of mission accomplished.

Additionally, the director of the Adventist Network of the central-south region of Rio de Janeiro, Professor Robledo Moraes, reinforced that Adventist education seeks to identify and develop high abilities. He quoted, in fact, a meeting held in 2018 with Dr. Cristina Delou, a Brazilian expert in high abilities, who stated that all schools have students with elevated potential; the challenge is to identify and adequately stimulate them.

Therefore, Sophia’s journey also highlights the importance of the school environment in developing talents.

Faith, Discipline, And Vision For The Future

Although she is still a child, Sophia shows maturity when speaking about her achievement. Upon receiving the news of her selection for the Louvre, she reported feeling anxiety and fear, but also confidence. According to her, she seeks to place her worries in God’s hands, believing that He directs her life.

Raised in an Adventist household, the girl has always been involved in church activities. Consequently, she sees art as a way to witness her faith and positively impact others.

While many children her age dedicate themselves exclusively to toys or video games, Sophia prefers to spend hours drawing and painting. For her, each painting represents not only technique but also purpose.

In addition to the Louvre Carousel, her works have already been exhibited at the Design.art gallery and at the Alliance Française in Friburgo. Thus, the exhibition in Paris emerges as a continuation of a journey that has already been built with dedication and consistency.

And, although she is still at the beginning of her journey, Sophia already demonstrates that talent, when combined with familial encouragement, structured education, and discipline, can break through any geographical boundary.

Do you believe that investing in a child’s talent can completely change the course of their life?
