At Just 12 Years Old, Gifted Student Lucca Aragão Earned a Spot in Mathematics at Uece and Aims for International Competitions, Balancing an Intense Study Routine with Childhood.

An exceptionally gifted student of just 12 years achieved an impressive feat in Ceará. Lucca Aragão, who is currently in the 6th grade of elementary school, was approved in the entrance exam at the State University of Ceará (Uece) for the Mathematics program. According to information from CNN, the young boy scored 190 points on the test, securing the 29th position in the general competition.

His approval at the university is just the latest in a robust list of academic achievements. Lucca’s performance reflects a scientifically diagnosed intellectual aptitude, which has been closely monitored and encouraged by his family, who seeks to balance the young boy’s high capabilities with typical childhood leisure activities.

A History of Achievements and Above-Average IQ

Lucca Aragão’s history is marked by excellence. As reported by CNN, at the end of last year, he took the entrance exam for admission to the Military School in Fortaleza, where he currently studies. Lucca not only passed but was the overall first place and the only candidate to score 10 in the entire exam. Additionally, the young student also won a silver medal at the OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad) last year.

His fondness for mathematics has a familial influence, as his father, José Aragão, is a professor of the subject. However, his significantly above-average performance led the family to seek professional support. After a battery of tests with a psychologist, Lucca was formally classified as gifted. His Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was measured at 136, while the classification for giftedness is considered above 130 points.

The Challenge of Balancing Stimulation and Childhood

The boy’s father, José Aragão, told CNN that Lucca has always shown great ease in retaining content. “He has always found it easy to retain information. During vacations, he would get bored and sad, wanting to go back to school,” he reported. After the diagnosis, the parents continued to stimulate their son’s studies, but with a new concern: monitoring self-demand and perfectionism.

The family understands the importance of maintaining a child’s routine. Although Lucca loves studying, his father emphasizes the need for breaks. “Lucca loves studying, but he cannot neglect typical childhood leisure activities such as playing ball, playing video games, and having fun with friends,” explained José Aragão to the report. This balance is seen as fundamental for his healthy development, even in light of his advanced intellectual capacity.

The Future: From Practice Test Taker in the Enem to MIT

The study pace of the gifted student doesn’t stop, even during vacations. During his father’s interview with CNN, Lucca was beside him studying for a creative writing test from ChallegengUS, an organization that promotes educational opportunities. Additionally, he will take the next Enem (National High School Exam) as a practice test taker, aiming to understand the test format, although his main focus is still not this.

Lucca’s main goal is to participate in the IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad), which brings together over a hundred countries, although he can only register when he is in high school. He is inspired by his idol Matheus Alencar de Soares, another Ceará native who, at 16 years old in 2023, won gold at the IMO and was accepted into the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in the USA.

Lucca’s plans include top colleges like ITA (Aeronautics Institute of Technology), which will have a campus in Fortaleza, and Harvard University in the USA. His father believes he will pursue an academic career. “I’ve already seen him clarifying doubts for friends in video calls, and during a history explanation, he even used gamer language to simplify the content. He has the gift of teaching,” concluded his father to CNN.

Stories like Lucca’s show incredible potential, but also the challenge of balancing academic development and childhood. Do you believe that the traditional education system is prepared for gifted students? How do you think this balance between advanced studies and leisure should be implemented in practice?

Me sinto em desgosto. Espero conseguir sair do Brasil logo.

A realidade é bem diferente.
Ode a pirataria.
