Toyota is shaking up the Brazilian automotive market by revealing new details about its highly anticipated mid-size pickup, temporarily known as the “Corolla Pickup”.
Although it is not an official announcement yet, the news was mentioned during a convention with dealers last week.
Brand executives revealed the project’s nickname, suggesting a connection between the pickup and the Corolla line, which currently includes the midsize sedan and the Corolla Cross SUV.

Context and Strategy
The connection to the Corolla name is not without reason. The line is one of Toyota’s most successful, both in Brazil and globally.
With the nickname “Corolla Pickup” confirmed, Toyota makes its intention to link the new pickup to the success of its sedan and SUV siblings clear.
At the convention, it was also revealed that the pickup will be launched in 2027, a delay from the initial schedule. The model will be manufactured in Sorocaba, São Paulo, using the same TNGA-C platform employed by the Corolla and Corolla Cross.
Toyota aims to position it to compete with models like the Fiat Toro, Ram Rampage, Ford Maverick, and the upcoming Renault Niagara, which is expected to arrive in Brazil in 2026.

Design and Structure
The foundation of the new pickup will be the Corolla Cross, sharing elements such as A and B pillars. However, the rear will be completely redesigned, with a longer wheelbase to accommodate the bed. The cab configuration will always be double, meeting the public’s demand for interior space and versatility.
The design aims to combine robustness and sophistication, aligning with the brand’s visual identity, already recognized for its appeal in both urban and rural markets. This balance is crucial to face established competitors in the segment.
Advanced Hybrid Powertrain
One of the main highlights of project 150D will be its flexible plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, a first for Toyota in Brazil.
The system will use 13.6 kWh lithium-ion batteries, ensuring up to 50 km of range in 100% electric mode. This technology is already seen in the new Prius and represents a leap in energy efficiency for the segment.
The combustion engine will be the 2.0 Dynamic Force naturally aspirated, with variable injection and Atkinson cycle, ensuring greater fuel economy.
In conjunction with a 163 hp electric motor, the combined power will be 223 hp on gasoline. With ethanol, the figures can be even more impressive, highlighting the versatility of the flexible hybrid powertrain.
The transmission will be the e-CVT, which uses a transaxle with planetary gears, providing a smooth and efficient driving experience. For the entry-level versions, the pickup will feature the same 2.0 engine in a non-electrified flex variant, delivering up to 175 hp of power and torque of 20.8 kgfm with ethanol.

National Development
The “Corolla Pickup” is a 100% Brazil-developed project and is part of the R$ 11 billion investment plan that Toyota intends to apply in the country by 2030. In addition to boosting the local economy, the initiative reinforces the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The mid-size pickup market is in full expansion in Brazil, and Toyota’s entry promises to further heat up the competition.
The focus on the flexible plug-in hybrid powertrain is a strategic differential, especially in a scenario where the search for sustainable alternatives grows every day.
