The government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has confirmed that a new PMERJ competition will be held. The selection is scheduled to take place in 2026 and has already announced 4 vacancies. The information was confirmed by Governor Cláudio Castro himself during an official event.
New PMERJ competition confirmed
The governor stated that the PMERJ competition is part of an effort to modernize and strengthen the public security in the state.

The government's goal is to incorporate 8 new police officers into the force by 2026. Of these, 4 have already been called up as surplus from the last competition, held in 2023. The other 4 thousand will come from the new selection.

Number of vacancies and forecast
The Military Police confirmed that the new selection will have 4 vacancies for soldiers. The goal is to complete the admission of 8 new agents.
Preparations are in the initial phase, and PMERJ reported that more details will be released later.
Requirements for the position of soldier
To participate in the competition, candidates must meet a series of requirements. According to the corporation, they are:
- Have completed secondary school;
- Be between 18 and 32 years old by the first day of registration (considering the day before the 33rd birthday);
- Have a minimum height of 1,65 meters for men and 1,60 meters for women;
- Have a National Driver's License (CNH), except category A.
Furthermore, since the STF decision, there is no longer a division of vacancies by gender. Therefore, men and women compete on equal terms.
Salaries and hiring regime
During the Soldier Training Course (CFSD), which lasts 12 months, successful candidates will receive gross remuneration of R$2.956,41.
After graduation, the starting salary rises to £ 5.233,88. Professionals are hired under the statutory regime, which guarantees stability in the public career.
This hiring model is typical of military positions and reinforces the professional's permanence in public service.
Enhanced security with new fleet and helicopter
The announcement of the new tender was made during the delivery of 214 new semi-armored vehicles to the PMERJ. The batch is part of a total of 758 vehicles that should be incorporated by the end of the semester.
The new fleet includes 103 Renault Duster SUVs and 111 Fiat Titano pickups. In total, the PM will receive 414 Duster units, 220 Titano units and 127 Toyota Corolla sedans.
These vehicles are the first to feature quadrilateral painting on the bodywork, an international standard already used by other security forces around the world.
Since 2022, the Rio de Janeiro government has acquired 1.714 vehicles, in addition to 956 various vehicles, 300 motorcycles, 30 armored vehicles, 22 thousand ballistic vests, 3.400 helmets, 600 rifles, 500 stun guns and 44 thousand uniforms.
Black Hawk arrives in Rio de Janeiro
Another new development announced is the arrival of a Black Hawk armored helicopter. The aircraft, used by the United States Armed Forces since 1979, will be integrated into the PMERJ air fleet later this year.
The model is known for its robustness and ability to operate in hostile environments. In Rio de Janeiro, it will be used in operations in conflict zones where criminal factions operate.
With special armor, the helicopter should increase the protection of agents in high-risk actions.
Expanded air fleet
Currently, the Rio Military Police has Bell Huey II, AW-169, AW119 and H-125 aircraft. These aircraft are used for patrolling, personnel transportation and tactical actions.
