The new selection for admission to the Merchant Marine Officer Training Schools has been officially confirmed. The Merchant Marine competition, referring to the EFOMM 2027 selection process, will offer 368 vacancies for officers distributed between CIAGA, in Rio de Janeiro, and CIABA, in Belém.
The notice was published in the Official Gazette of the Union on May 12, 2026 and details registrations, exams, elimination stages, and the start of the course. Registrations will take place between May 21 and June 2, exclusively through the Brazilian Navy website, with a fee of R$ 110.
The training is free and continues to be one of the main national opportunities for young people interested in a maritime career. The official document was signed by Rear Admiral Marcelo Lancellotti, commander of CIAGA.

Merchant Marine competition expands opportunities for maritime training
The opening of the new selection reinforces the importance of training specialized professionals for the Brazilian naval sector. The EFOMM selection process continues to be one of the main entry points for a national maritime career.
Of the 368 vacancies for officers, 204 will be allocated to CIAGA, in Rio de Janeiro, while another 164 will be at CIABA, in Belém, Pará.

New selection requires minimum age, High School, and physical fitness

To compete for officer vacancies, it is necessary to:
- Be a native-born Brazilian;
- Be between 17 and 23 years old by January 1, 2027;
- Have completed High School by February 2027;
- Be up to date with electoral and military obligations;
- Be between 1.54 meters and 2 meters tall.
The new selection accepts candidates of both sexes and maintains EFOMM’s traditional requirements for admission to the training course.
Complementary stages make selection even more rigorous
After the objective tests, those approved in the EFOMM selection process will proceed to new eliminatory stages. The Psychophysical Selection will take place between September 29 and November 10, 2026. In this phase, candidates will undergo complete medical examinations.
The Physical Aptitude Test will be held between November 23 and December 4. The adaptation and document verification period will take place between January 11 and 29, 2027. Enrollment for approved candidates is scheduled for February 1, 2027, the same date scheduled for the start of the course.
