In January, the balance between hires and dismissals was positive with 113,155 job openings. In February, the difference was also positive with 224,818 job opportunities.
However, in March, when the crisis caused by the coronavirus began, dismissals exceeded hires by 240,702.
The result is the worst since 1992, when the historical series of Caged began. At that time, Brazil had closed 142,000 job positions during the same period.
The impact is explained by social isolation and distancing actions. The measure is crucial to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.
Among the states, São Paulo led the negative employment results. There were 227,670 dismissals. In second place, Rio de Janeiro closed 125,154 formal positions between January and April of this year.
