With Retro Design and Cutting-Edge Technology, Hyundai’s New FCEV Promises High Performance and Quick Refueling
Hyundai has just confirmed that one of the most anticipated cars by futuristic vehicle enthusiasts, the N Vision 74, is set for production. Inspired by the iconic 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe, the N Vision 74 is a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid vehicle (FCEV) that combines retro design with the most advanced automotive technology. During Hyundai’s Investor Day, the automaker unveiled its plans to launch 21 new electric models by 2030, and the N Vision 74 is one of the major bets of this new lineup, according to the website Olhar Digital.
Futuristic Design and High-Power Performance
With a look that seems to have come straight out of science fiction movies, such as Mad Max and Back to the Future, the Hyundai N Vision 74 hybrid vehicle stands out for its unique aesthetic. The design pays homage to the 1974 Pony Coupe concept, but with a modern approach that alludes to the future of mobility.
This FCEV model is not just a visual work of art. It is equipped with two 235 kW motors on each rear wheel, which provides a total power of 500 kW, equivalent to an impressive 670.5 hp. In addition, the N Vision 74 offers 900 nm of torque, ensuring exceptional performance.

A common practice in traffic can be costly: using the hazard lights incorrectly can result in fines, points on your driver’s license, and even towing of the vehicle.
Fuel Cell Technology and Quick Refueling
Unlike traditional hybrid cars that use large batteries, the N Vision 74 is powered by a fuel cell that uses hydrogen. This system offers the advantage of quick refueling, similar to that of a gasoline car, which can be a crucial differentiator for those looking to avoid the long charging waits typical of battery electric vehicles.
The N Vision 74 hybrid car promises a range of over 600 km on a single refueling, making it a viable option for long trips. However, the hydrogen refueling station infrastructure is still a challenge to be overcome. In the United States, there are only 59 hydrogen refueling stations, while in the United Kingdom there are only six. In South Korea, the scenario is more promising, with about 172 stations available.
Challenges and Expectations
Despite the infrastructure limitations, the attractive design and promising performance of the N Vision 74 hybrid car may compensate for practical difficulties. However, it is important to remember that while Hyundai has announced its production plans, there are still uncertainties about when the model will officially be available on the market.
Hyundai has demonstrated a more realistic approach compared to other automakers that made ambitious promises in the past. One example is Harley-Davidson, which in 2017 promised to launch 100 new models in 10 years, a goal that turned out to be difficult to meet.
With the N Vision 74, Hyundai not only honors the past with a retro design, but also looks to the future with innovative and sustainable technology. This model has the potential to redefine the concept of sports cars in the market, combining the best of both worlds: classic style and cutting-edge performance.
