Commemorative series marks the final stretch of the current generation of the Toyota Corolla with exclusive bronze trim, unprecedented wheels, and hybrid and aspirated versions before the global renewal expected in the coming years for the best-selling sedan in the automotive industry.

Toyota has begun to conclude the cycle of the current generation of the Corolla with a special series created to celebrate 60 years of the best-selling model in automotive industry history.

The commemorative edition was initially presented in Taiwan and features exclusive visual changes to the Corolla sedan, Corolla Cross, and Corolla Sport, maintaining the line’s well-known engines while the manufacturer prepares for the arrival of the next generation, anticipated by international specialized press for 2027.

The launch occurs at an important moment for the Corolla’s global trajectory.

The sedan, originally launched in 1966, has surpassed the 50 million units sold worldwide mark and continues to be one of Toyota’s most relevant products in markets such as Japan, the United States, Europe, and Brazil.

The 60-year series emerges precisely to mark the final stretch of the current generation before the complete renewal awaited in the coming years.

Toyota Corolla 60 years bets on exclusive look

The changes in the special edition appear mainly in the exterior finish.

Toyota applied golden bronze details to the bodywork, as well as side decals and commemorative emblems that identify the models in the anniversary line.

In the Corolla sedan, called Corolla Altis in some Asian markets, the changes became more evident.

The front received bronze trim on the front grille and lower air intakes, creating a greater contrast with the body paint and reinforcing the edition’s more sophisticated proposal.

Additionally, the model gained 17-inch wheels with a two-tone finish and exclusive elements near the fenders.

Although the car’s structure remains unchanged, the visual package clearly differentiates the special series from the conventional versions currently marketed.

Meanwhile, the Corolla Cross received a more discreet package of changes.

The SUV uses bronze details concentrated on the front grille and parts of the rear, maintaining the already known visual identity of the line sold globally.

The 18-inch wheels feature a specific design for the commemorative edition, but without profound changes to the SUV’s visual proposal.

Toyota preferred to preserve the model’s style and add only enough elements to identify the 60-year series.

The Corolla Sport, a hatchback version marketed in some Asian and European markets, followed an even more conservative path.

The vehicle maintained practically the same design as the regular line and received only exclusive wheels, side decals, and commemorative emblems spread across the bodywork.

Corolla interior receives bronze trim

The changes also reached the interior of the three models.

Toyota applied bronze details to the dashboard, center console, doors, and steering wheel, creating a visual identity aligned with the commemorative series’ exterior proposal.

The stitching on the seats and parts of the interior trim follows the same color pattern, reinforcing the special character of the edition without altering the cabin’s already known architecture.

The interior space, control placement, and equipment remain the same as those used in the current Corolla line.

The Japanese manufacturer did not promote significant changes to the multimedia center, digital panel, or driver assistance systems.

Thus, the 60-year series focuses its main novelty on the visual aspect and finish, keeping intact the mechanical and technological base already offered in currently sold models.

2.0 naturally aspirated engine and hybrid version remain unchanged

Despite the expectation of new features before the arrival of the next generation, Toyota decided to preserve the Corolla’s already known mechanical sets in Taiwan.

The commemorative series continues to be available with a 2.0 naturally aspirated engine and also with the 1.8 hybrid system.

The 2.0 engine remains focused on the traditional versions of the line, offering performance similar to the rest of the current range.

The hybrid system, on the other hand, maintains the proposal of energy efficiency and low fuel consumption, a characteristic that helped the electrified Corolla gain ground in different markets.

So far, there has been no announcement of changes in power, torque, transmission, or performance specifically for the anniversary edition.

Toyota’s strategy was to use the special series as a visual farewell to the current generation, without promoting deep structural changes before the model’s complete renewal.

New generation of the Toyota Corolla expected to arrive in 2027

The current generation of the Corolla was globally presented in 2018 and underwent a mid-cycle update in the following years, including changes in finish, connectivity, and safety equipment.

Even so, the project is already approaching its final phase given the advancement of electrification in the automotive sector and the demands for more modern platforms.

The international automotive press expects the next generation to be launched in 2027 with more profound changes in design, hybrid systems, and onboard technology.

There are still no complete official details released by Toyota about the future Corolla, but specialized vehicles indicate that the brand is working on a significant evolution of the line’s energy efficiency and connectivity.

Furthermore, the next generation may receive significant changes in aerodynamics, active safety, and the integration of semi-autonomous driving systems.

The information available so far, however, is still treated as market anticipations and not as definitive official announcements from the Japanese manufacturer.

Toyota has not yet confirmed special series in Brazil

Toyota began pre-selling the commemorative series in Taiwan with different prices for each configuration, but has not yet confirmed whether it intends to expand the 60-year edition to other international markets.

In Brazil, the Corolla continues to be one of the Japanese brand’s most important models.

The sedan produced in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, remains among the best-selling hybrids in the country and continues to occupy a relevant position in the mid-size segment.

Currently, the Brazilian line offers versions with a 2.0 naturally aspirated flex engine and also 1.8 flex hybrid variants, a combination that helped the model maintain competitiveness in the face of the growing presence of SUVs and electrified vehicles in the national market.

Even without confirmation of the special series for the country, the launch in Taiwan reinforces the movement of gradual discontinuation of the current generation.

The Corolla reaches 60 years preserving a rare position in the automotive industry: that of one of the few cars capable of spanning decades while maintaining commercial relevance in different regions of the world.
