Despite the counterpoints of recent months involving the generation of solar energy, the trend is that in 2020 new records will be reached

Production solar energy of Brazil in the first 15 days of 2020 rose to 590 average megawatts (MWa), from 507 MWa a year ago, for an increase of 16,3%. After the President of the Republic stated that this type of generation will no longer suffer consumer taxation through a Bill that will be on the agenda in Congress this year, experts say that this market will still have room to grow a lot.

Wind generation, on the other hand, dropped by 39,7% to 3.518 MWa. Its share in the mix fell from 5,5% to 5,2% at the beginning of 2019, shows data published in the InfoMercado Semanal of the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), the weekly report on energy generation and consumption.

Biomass power generation rose from 1.074 MWa to 1.068 MWa. The hydroelectric plants (UHE) produced 50.763 MWa, below the 55.802 MWa in the previous year. Brazil has seen the huge increase in gas power generation to 6.445 MWa from 2.912 MWa a year ago.

Total electricity generation decreased by 2,3% year-on-year in the first half of January, with 67.104 MWa delivered to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Demand reached 63.796 MWa, or 2,4% less than the previous year.
