Airplane That Belonged to Elvis Was Forgotten for Decades in the Desert and Now Travels the US as a Retro Motorhome with Original Interior
A jet that belonged to Elvis Presley spent four decades forgotten in the New Mexico desert. Now, it has turned into a luxury motorhome on wheels. The transformation was done by American YouTuber James Webb, from the channel Jimmy’s World.
In January 2023, Webb purchased the airplane at an auction in Florida for US$ 260,000, equivalent to about R$ 1.4 million.
The idea was clear from the beginning: restore the historical piece and transform it into a traveling attraction.

More than €600,000 in gold hidden in pots and an “invisible” safe inside an old house turns a small French town into the stage for a discovery that reveals how entire fortunes can remain buried for decades without anyone noticing.
The renovation of the jet took about 18 months and cost an additional US$ 116,000, or R$ 670,000. The wings and tail were removed.
The fuselage was placed on the chassis of an old double-axle motorhome. The red paint, one of the trademarks of the airplane, was preserved.
Today, what once transported the King of Rock now travels American roads as a mobile museum.
Interior With a Touch of the Golden Years
The motorhome was named Hound Dog, in honor of one of Elvis’s most famous songs. The interior retains many original details.
Among them are the red velvet seats, wooden panels, and a period cassette player. A VCR, television, and sound system with individual headphones are also still in place.
Even the bathroom was preserved, including an original vanity. The small kitchen still features a microwave and a beverage dispenser. All of this reinforces the aesthetic of the singer’s golden era, which marked generations.
Attraction for Elvis Presley Fans
James Webb does not use the vehicle just for traveling. He charges US$ 10 for a visit for those who want to explore the interior of the adapted airplane.
“It’s a way to keep Elvis’s story alive and give a new purpose to an important piece of the past,” the YouTuber said in one of the videos posted on the channel.
Before the renovation, the jet was without engines and had a damaged cabin. Even so, it was seen as a relic by collectors. Now, it has become a success on social media and attracts fans of all ages.
