Internationally recognized and still active, Lindomar Cardoso Tournier transformed the celebration of Tubarão’s anniversary into a cultural milestone by presenting a new work at 104 years old, preserving a literary trajectory initiated after retirement and maintained with adaptations in routine.

Recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest-living author still active in the world, Lindomar Cardoso Tournier, aged 104, launched in Tubarão, in the South of Santa Catarina, the book “Herotídes – Pride and Redemption”.

The presentation of the work took place this Wednesday (27), during the program celebrating the 156 years of political emancipation of the municipality, where the writer has lived since 1955 and built an important part of his personal and cultural trajectory.

At Café Cultura, in Farol Shopping, family members, readers, local culture representatives, and members of the Tubarão community attended the launch, which combined the city’s anniversary celebration with another chapter of the author’s literary production.

With “Herotídes – Pride and Redemption”, Lindomar expands a production that remains active even after he surpassed a century of life, in a trajectory marked by persistence in writing and connection with the cultural memory of Santa Catarina.

Included in the official agenda of the municipality, the publication reinforced the presence of the writer among the names associated with the culture of Tubarão, a city that has housed his story since the mid-1950s.

Despite the physical limitations imposed by age, the creative routine remains preserved through adaptations, as manual writing has become more difficult and has given way to recording ideas in audio.

This method allows thoughts, memories, and projects to be recorded before being organized into text, keeping the creative process that has accompanied Lindomar for decades ongoing.

In the days leading up to the launch, the writer received a motion of applause from the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina, proposed by state deputy Junior Cardoso, of the PL, and delivered at the author’s residence in Tubarão.

Due to mobility difficulties, the tribute took place at Lindomar’s house, where the parliamentarian highlighted the writer’s contribution to Santa Catarina’s culture and the preservation of regional memory.

“At 104 years old, Lindomar Tournier continues producing, writing, and contributing to the preservation of our state’s cultural memory,” stated Junior Cardoso.

Also speaking about his relationship with books, Lindomar associated writing with the experiences accumulated over a lifetime and the desire to transform memories into literary narratives.

“Writing has always been part of my journey. Each book carries experiences, stories, and memories that I have accumulated over all these years,” declared the author.

From Pharmacy to Santa Catarina Literature

Born in Lauro Müller, in the south of Santa Catarina, Lindomar Cardoso Tournier moved to Tubarão in 1955 and began to build a path in the city linked to commerce, community interaction, and later, literature.

Before publishing books, he worked for decades in retail and pharmacies, environments that put him in direct contact with residents, everyday stories, and characters that helped form his narrative repertoire.

Over the years, counter conversations, relationships built in customer service, and experiences lived in the city began to serve as inspiration for plots and figures present in his works.

The more intense entry into literature occurred after retirement, when Lindomar, motivated by an interest in reading, painting, and writing, began to study computing, attend courses, and organize his own manuscripts.

In 1997, this movement resulted in the release of “Albertina”, the first book of a production that expanded in the following decades and established the writer as a constant presence in Tubarão’s cultural scene.

Since then, Lindomar has published more than 20 works and maintained a creative routine that spanned different phases of life, even after turning 100 and facing new physical limitations.

Among the most recent titles are “A Carta”, released when the writer had already reached the centenary, and “Consanguíneos”, presented at the Willy Zumblick Municipal Culture Center in Tubarão.

The connection with local literature also appears in the Tubarão Academy of Letters, an entity of which Lindomar is a member and pointed out as one of the founding members, occupying chair number 14.

Guinness recognizes the longest-serving author in activity

The recognition by Guinness World Records took Lindomar’s journey to an international dimension by associating his name with the title of the longest-serving author in activity in the world.

The achievement gained attention because the writer not only reached an advanced age with published books but also continued developing literary projects after 100 years, maintaining a direct link with new works.

In Tubarão, the achievement became regarded as a cultural milestone, especially for involving an author who built a career outside major publishing centers and remained connected to regional production.

The city, already known for valuing names in the arts, like Willy Zumblick, began associating Lindomar with a living memory of literature produced in the municipality and in southern Santa Catarina.

By gaining international visibility, the writer’s work also expanded the reach of a journey that began late, after retirement, but was sustained by discipline, daily observation, and dedication to writing.

Even so, Lindomar’s current routine remains focused in Tubarão, without extensive schedules or frequent travels, with family support, daily care, and adapted resources to maintain literary production.

Writing at 104 years and adapted routine

In the writer’s routine, caregiver Juliana closely follows the adaptations that allow the continuation of literary projects and describes living with Lindomar as an experience marked by admiration.

“For me, it is an honor to be with Mr. Lindomar. It is a gift that God gave me,” she said.

According to Juliana, the author maintains an interest in new projects even in a phase of life marked by mobility restrictions, which reinforces the presence of writing in his daily life.

“He is always thinking about what the future will be like. He is an example of life,” Juliana stated.

With ideas recorded in audio, literary production has become an activity shared with those who accompany Lindomar daily, helping to preserve thoughts, memories, and scenes that can reach new pages.

This process shows how the author adapted creation to current conditions, without abandoning the habit of narrating, recovering memories, and transforming personal experiences into stories linked to the Santa Catarina environment.

The intellectual longevity of the writer also draws attention due to the link between memory and cultural production, as his works gather records of customs, social relations, and transformations experienced in Santa Catarina over the decades.

With the release of “Herotídes – Pride and Redemption”, Lindomar reaffirmed his presence in the cultural scene of Tubarão and kept active a career officially started in books in 1997, after retirement.

The new work becomes part of a production built with reading habits, observation, and writing cultivated throughout life, in a routine that remains adapted to the author’s physical conditions.
