Since 2019, through the Environmental Development Consortium of Northern Minas (Codanorte), landfills in 15 municipalities in the region of Minas Gerais have been closed, which resulted in the end of the irregular disposal of more than 800 tons of solid waste.
The municipality of Francisco Dumont in Minas Gerais, invested more than R$ 170 thousand in the construction of the plant and according to the town hall, it is estimated that at least 21 tons of waste begin to be correctly disposed of each month, thus increasing job vacancies for the local population.
Prior to the plant's inauguration, Minister Ricardo Salles participated in a press conference at the Montes Claros airport and spoke about the federal government's support for small municipalities in the treatment of waste and recovery of contaminated areas.
Codanorte aims for more job openings and the closure of more than 22 open-air dumps
According to the Environmental Development Consortium of Norte de Minas, the expectation is the generation of more job openings for the first half of 2021, and also the closure of more than 22 open-air dumps.
In Francisco Dumont, the Screening and Composting Plant was built in an area of 500 square meters on the side of a rural road, where the city dump used to be.
