The plants will be installed in the municipality of Santa Rita do Araguaia, in the extreme southwest of Goiás. The contract was signed by Maxxi Plus and by the Union and Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives in Goiás (OCB).

Solar energy generation companies will invest BRL 40 million in the implementation of their structures, which should create almost 400 direct and indirect job openings.

The works are expected to start in 2020 and the operation will take place in phases. The expectation is that the new solar plant of the OCB System will reach 5MW of power within four years, with a projected yield of BRL 6 million per year.

according to Tânia Salgueiro, mayor of Santa Rita do Araguaia, solar energy plants represent “the realization of a dream”, because they will solve one of the biggest problems in the region, which is the supply of electricity. Soon, it will turn the municipality into a clean and renewable energy generator, arousing the interest of new investors. “The plants came to leverage [the municipality]. They will aggregate and further foster our development”, she projects.

Another advantage for Santa Rita do Araguaia is that the activity of solar energy plants should generate considerable growth in revenue from the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS). “It will increase our revenue and allow the municipality to offer more public policies in areas such as health, education and social assistance. This economic development will bring better quality of life to our community”, emphasizes the mayor.

Full development for Goiás

The announcement of the installation of solar power plants in Santa Rita do Araguaia is unprecedented. Never before had the city, located on the border with Mato Grosso do Sul, received impetus from the state government. The distribution of investments by the State is a strategy for reducing regional inequalities that Caiado adopted during his administration. The goal is to decentralize the accumulated demand in cities like Goiânia, Aparecida de Goiânia and Anápolis, and to migrate industrial activities to the entire interior of Goiás.

In less than two years, the current government has signed 159 protocols, with an estimated investment of BRL 6,1 billion. The Secretary for Industry, Commerce and Services (DIH), Adonídio Neto, stressed that now it is not just about written documents, but agreements that become reality. Even in the midst of the pandemic, he points out, “Goiás is one of the three states that had growth in formal jobs and growth in industrial production”.
