A Chinese employee received an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at US$ 1,500 during the company’s year-end party, but when he opened the box in front of his colleagues, he found tiles and chocolate, later demanding a public apology for the incident.
Employee Receives iPhone and Exposes Case on Social Media
The employee, identified on Weibo as Jiang Jiang, documented the experience after going on stage to receive the iPhone 17 Pro Max as a prize awarded by his boss. The device, valued at US$ 1,500, was presented as a corporate benefit during the celebration.

iPhone Box Contained Tiles and Chocolate
Upon opening the iPhone 17 Pro Max packaging, the employee found only some ceramic tiles and a chocolate. Instead of the US$ 1,500 device, the contents were limited to items described as bathroom decorations.
According to his own account published on the Chinese social network, the hospital where he works never delivered the promised prizes. The episode was described as a prank carried out by the boss during the year-end party.
Apology Request and Reaction on Social Media
After the incident, the employee stated that he was not interested in the iPhone itself, but felt insulted by the situation. He began demanding a public apology from the employer.
In his post, he declared that he hoped 2026 would start with good luck, but that the year-end party turned into an April Fool’s prank. The response on Weibo was immediate, with massive user support for his stance.
Second Prize and Criticism of Employer
According to a report cited by the South China Morning Post, the second prize of the party was also deemed unsatisfactory: a pillow. Comments posted on the network criticized the company’s stance.
One user wrote that the party should celebrate the hard work of the employees instead of flattering the boss. Another stated that the prizes showed disrespect towards the employees and described the situation as mediocre.
The prank involving the iPhone left a bitter taste in the online community. The employee continues to await a public apology following the incident that sparked repercussions and debate over corporate benefits and respect in the workplace.
