Discover Domingos Martins (ES), the charming mountain village nicknamed the “Capixaba Switzerland,” which attracts tourists with its European climate, artificial snow, and award-winning wines.

In the heart of the Capixaba mountains, between valleys covered with araucarias and streets adorned with floral architecture, a village has been gaining national fame as the “Switzerland of Espírito Santo.” Its name is Domingos Martins, a small municipality that combines European charm, sophisticated cuisine, boutique hotels, and even artificial snow during the winter. Although it is still relatively unknown outside the state, the village has drawn discerning visitors and established itself as one of the best cold weather tourism destinations in Southeastern Brazil — a charming and accessible alternative to the more bustling cities of Serra Gaúcha or Minas Gerais.

The Charm of the Mountains of Espírito Santo

Located about 50 km from Vitória, Domingos Martins is situated in the mountain region of Espírito Santo, with altitudes exceeding one thousand meters, ensuring mild temperatures for much of the year. In winter, thermometers can register lows around 5°C, an ideal condition for attracting tourists looking for a mountain climate.

The landscapes are dominated by green valleys, preserved forests, and rock formations, with a highlight on the imposing Pedra Azul State Park, one of the region’s postcards. It is in this combination of exuberant nature and welcoming infrastructure that the village stands out.

A Little Piece of Europe in Brazil – ‘Capixaba Switzerland’

Domingos Martins has deep German roots. Founded by German immigrants in the 19th century, the town still preserves strong traces of European culture, visible in its cuisine, typical festivals, and the architecture of the historic center.

The half-timbered houses, organized squares with blooming gardens, and cafés serving artisanal cakes give visitors the feeling of being in a Bavarian village — but with a Capixaba accent and Brazilian hospitality.

During the winter months, the municipality hosts the Domingos Martins Winter Festival, which transforms the streets into alpine scenes. In recent years, the event has included attractions such as artificial snow, themed lighting, and outdoor classical music concerts — reinforcing the nickname “Capixaba Switzerland.”

Cuisine, Wines, and Mountain Charm in the ‘Capixaba Switzerland’

The city is also gaining ground in the Brazilian culinary and wine tourism scene. Small local wineries have focused on producing high-altitude wines, taking advantage of the region’s soil and climate to develop elegant and aromatic labels.

Many of these wines can be tasted directly in boutique hotels and charming inns scattered throughout the mountains, which offer complete experiences with fireplaces, fondue, balconies overlooking greenery, and breakfast featuring farm-fresh products.

Additionally, German cuisine is present with dishes such as pork knuckle, artisanal sausages, sauerkraut, and local beers, produced by master brewers descended from the immigrants who colonized the region.

Nature and Outdoor Leisure

For those who enjoy adventure or direct contact with the environment, Domingos Martins is a gateway to ecotourism in the mountains of Espírito Santo.

The Pedra Azul State Park, located about 30 km from the city center, is one of the state’s main natural attractions. Pedra Azul, a rock formation that changes color throughout the day, can be climbed via guided trails that lead visitors to natural pools with panoramic views.

Other activities include horseback riding, bicycle tours, visits to rural properties, harvesting typical fruits, and agrotourism circuits — all with that cold and welcoming climate reminiscent of European villages.

Boutique Hotels Among the Mountains

The village’s highlights go beyond nature. One of the differentiators of Domingos Martins is the offer of exclusive accommodations, focusing on comfort, privileged views, and romantic or relaxing experiences.

There are chalets with outdoor bathtubs, inns with fireplaces in the suites, spas with valley views, and even suspended cabins in the midst of the forest. Most establishments offer colonial breakfast, personalized tours, and experiences such as picnics among the mountains or private candlelit dinners.

This combination of high-standard lodging, cold climate, and exuberant nature has solidified Domingos Martins as an increasingly valued option in Brazilian charm tourism.

A Destination for All Seasons

Although the peak of tourism in Domingos Martins occurs in winter, with festivals and the search for a European climate, the village also offers attractions year-round.

In spring, the blooming gardens and nature come alive with vibrant colors. In summer, the region’s waterfalls and natural pools become perfect refuges from the heat. In autumn, the wineries offer special harvests and tastings.

Access is easy, especially for those coming by car from Vitória, Minas Gerais, or Rio de Janeiro. This means the village is increasingly on the radar of those looking for new destinations to escape the coast and explore the mountains of Espírito Santo.

With artificial snow, high-altitude wines, preserved nature, and charming inns hidden among the mountains, Domingos Martins (ES) has everything to be called the Capixaba Switzerland — not by coincidence, but by essence.

It is a piece of Europe planted in Brazil, accessible, welcoming, and surprising. A charming village that unites culture, climate, and gastronomy in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Southeast. If you are looking for a romantic, exclusive, or simply different destination, you may have already found it: it is hidden among the Capixaba mountains.

Pequeno Município? Não conhece nada aqui no ES. Está entre os 5 mais visitados no ES (da região serrana é o mais visitado) e como não bastasse, é um dos maiores em extensão de terra.
